1945 Merc - Mint S Varieties? - Coin Community Forum

Opne New Member United States 23 Posts	Posted 02/10/2012 9:54 pm I'm not too familiar with the 1945 mercury varieties. These two mint marks are obviously different, but are they DIFFERENT? I have a bunch of micro "s" dimes, and can recognize them from their serifs. But I have SO many 1945 "s" dimes that are not micro "s" while at the same time not identical to each other! macmercury Pillar of the Community United States 5839 Posts	Posted 02/11/2012 01:17 am Both appears to be the knob tail S MM, one is just worn. Better close up pictures of the MM would help to decipher it. The Trumpet tail style MM variety is the rarer of the two. Report this Post to the Staff
Opne New Member United States 23 Posts	Posted 02/11/2012 02:36 am oh I'm aware they're both knob tail (ish), but what's with the different positions? i'll try to get some close up pictures but it may be difficult since they're in slabs and so difficult to get a focus on.
