I'm not too familiar with the 1945 mercury varieties. These two mint marks are obviously different, but are they DIFFERENT?
I have a bunch of micro "s" dimes, and can recognize them from their serifs. But I have SO many 1945 "s" dimes that are not micro "s" while at the same time not identical to each other! What's going on?
oh I'm aware they're both knob tail (ish), but what's with the different positions?
i'll try to get some close up pictures but it may be difficult since they're in slabs and so difficult to get a focus on. I was hoping one was an s over d but, heh, aybe not huh.
In the Mercury dime days, mint marks were punched after the die was made. Mint marks could move around in those days, and that's also why you have RPM, S over D, and others.
