I have this coin from a collection and it LOOKS like gold, is heavy like gold, but I cannot find any reference to it anywhere.
Thanks in advance.

The primer festival internacional cervantino is a yearly multi-cultural festival in Mexico that started in 1972. A silver coin was created in 2005 worth $10 to celebrate the festival (this one doesn't look silver). This is some sort of commemorative coin from this event. It could be an official coin of the festival, or maybe a privately made one sold to tourists. I've never seen one so I'm not sure.

I agree with Matthew saying that it could be a coin given to tourists, the festival is one to commemorate the poet and playwright, Cervantes. It is held in Guanajuatom Mexico as you can see the Seal of the Mexican State on the back of the coin.

On metal composition, since it is probably made by a minor mint (though I have no idea of the mint), it is probably not a pricey metal, probably gold plated bronze.

Have you had answers about the coin you posted? I have one just like it and don't know the value. My husband gave it to me forty years ago and wondered if because it's the first festival and this is the 40th anniversay of the festival whether it would spike the interest. Thank you so much. Any information on the coin will be sincerely appreciated.

considering the only date on the coin is 1972, I could only assume it was made in that year? but if it is just for tourists then who knows..did the person you got this from give you ANY info?

I found the medal in the following website:
http://www.pandaamerica.com/details...p=1&categ=11
My husband purchased it from a gold, silver, etc., dealer in San Diego and he was told there were only 500 medals made and one person purchased 250. My husband only purchased one and I've held it 40 years. The 40th anniversary is coming this year and it might be worth more than the current gold value to a collector
