I hope I am wrong Squire But yours looks like it is incused. It's in the right place tho, could be the start of the die damage that caused this or where the die has been repaired. Here are pics of my 2 in comparison

Thanks for the feedback trout1105 - my "bubble" coin was created when the "bubble" imperfection in the die was formed, and had not deteriorated much. Alternatively, after repairs had been effected. Have to keep a lookout for a type similar to yours. It's a beauty Squire

Quote: Have to keep a lookout for a type similar to yours. It's a beauty I got mine from the "bubble Queen" Interesting that you found this in Vic, most of them have surfaced in Sunny Queensland. If the mint repaired the die they should be able to produce a rough population report on this error, If they just scrapped the die without noticing the error we will never know

I re-discovered my 3rd bubble coin a couple days ago when I was checking some of my earlier 20c finds. I thought I had 3 when I first replied to larena's post about them back in Feb, but could only locate 2. This is the missing one:

Thanks Nancy. It is now alongside my 1966 "wavy" and one of my 2010 rotated 50c.

Good find ozcoins Quote: one of my 2010 rotated 50c. What? More than one? That's pretty good!! Still looking for my first..... Scored another 20c 2010 bubble last night, just the second one I've found. Have another $200 of 20c still to get through. What's rarer - the 2001 20c Rotated, or the 2010 50c Rotated?

penny dreadful, I think I have been lucky with the rotated 2010 50c. I suspect they were released in Sydney and I was in the right place at the right time as the first few were all uncirculated. I have looked through about 2000 50c coins a week for a long time and I have managed to find a small number of them. I gave one to Nancy and one to a good friend of mine. I am have no real idea about numbers of either the rotated 2010 50c or the rotated 2001 20c and I suspect we will never really know how many there are of each. I have kept some stats of how many 2010 50c coins I have searched to try and get an idea of how many there are, but need to compile them. The stats would not account for where they are distributed. If they are all in Sydney, rather than evenly distributed, then my stats would show them as being more common than they really are. eg, If a sample of 10000 2010 50 in Sydney shows 10 rotated dies you would conclude they are 1 in a 1000 If a sample of 10000 2010 50c in Perth shows 0 rotated dies you would conclude that there are none. The truth (in this hypothetical example) might be that there are 10 in 20000 coins which would be 1 in 2000 All 3 results are pretty different, even with good sample sizes. I have not found any rotated 2001 20c but until fairly recently have been mainly concentrating on 50c.

Rightio ozcoins, then Sydney's the place to look for them...have some rellies up there, so might put the word out!!
I'd guess there's at most a full die run, and more likely less, depending if it was picked up on or not. Surely they'd have noticed when removing that die after its run ended that it hadn't been aligned correctly?
This would then be as hard to find as the 2000 incused 50 cent, maybe even more so as it won't get the publicity as the incused 50c (or the $1 mule) has.

Back on the 20c bubble, I've just gone through the 33 x 2010 coins I had in today's (yesterday's...) $200 worth of 20's, and found another 2 bubbles but both are not as raised as the one I posted up earlier - today's 2 are more flat in profile. There seems to be varying degrees of height of the bubble

Quote: There seems to be varying degrees of height of the bubble Possible just coins that were struck earlier on in the life of the die, so you may end up with a few coins that show the progression of the deterioration of the die.

Here's a scan of one of the flat bubble coins. Lucky I have one in the collection already; this one has a huge scratch right across it

Looks like there are more & more of these bubbles coming out in the last month or so. I'm gonna stick my head on the chopping block & say that eventually when all the 2010 20 cent coins have been released into circulation this variety will be more common than many people seem to think.
