I posted this coin earlier 2/13/2012 to check the grade before I bought it. I bought it and just received it. I see now, that I have it in hand, that it looks like its been cleaned. I could not see the marks on the auction pictures. Please check and give me an educated opinion, I sure hope my eyes are failing me, thanks, Ed

The obverse is more apparent than the reverse.

There is a tell-tale sign if this is one of the "Confederate struck halves", a die crack;

"...Clearly, these 1861-O specimen half dollars owe their existence to the need to commemorate an event before the new Confederate dies were ready. (Or the reverse die, as it turned out, the Confederate half dollars reused a Union obverse die, identifiable by a die crack from rim to the bridge of the nose.) The Confederate mint closed at the end of April 1861...."

Does yours have this die crack?

That is a bummer. It looked like a really nice coin in the other thread.

I'm not sure what you mean on the tell-tale sign, I'm waiting on an article by Mr. Randy Wiley, Die Mariages of the Seated 1861-O half dollar. I know of the die crack and I don't see anything on this one that even looks like the beginning of the crack, Ed

If the seller claimed this coin was original, he was wrong and should give you a refund.

The search is still on, I love the hunt..
The seller has a 14 day return window, no questions asked. I just emailed him,
Rest in Peace
