If anyone would be kind enough to identify these two bank notes it would be a big help.

Both are Chinese "hell bank notes" meant to be burned for use by the dead.

The first specimen is a "ten yuan" note issued by "The Bank of Hades" (yin fu yin hang).

The second is not a "five yuan" but rather a "five hundred yuan" note issued by "The Commercial Bank of Hades" (yin shang yin hang).

Thanks Gary. I would have never guessed that there would be early type heck notes with low denominations.

my local Asian grocer has them in packets of 50, in denominations upto a billion or so, for a few dollars.
