I couldn't find this listed anywhere. I unfortunately cannot make the picture any clearer but I believe the 1 in the date on the obverse is notched and has a tail at the bottom as well.

Please let me know what you think.

I agree there is some Machine Doubling, but I have taken some additional pictures and highlighted what I am concerned about.

Does anyone know someone on this forum who is familiar/collects the Jefferson nickel series that may have some input on this nickel?

Also, I wouldn't mind hearing if more people think this is Die Deterioration or Machine Doubling as opposed to notching symbolic of a doubled die.

Thanks again!

Alas the Jefferson nickel series has never garnered the level of attention to identify/catalog every variety ... so surely there are some minor DDO/etc out there that quite honestly have not yet been identified.

I can't say for your coin ... but the final detail photos should be good enough for the DDO experts to weigh in.

I don't know if it has been attributed as a DDO but there is one guy that I would send your images to. Brian Ribar. He has gotten back to me every time I wrote him. You may even see your name someday as the person who discovered it if you are the first to report it.
On the other hand, I don't know if it is a doubled die but I lean towards yes since the "flag" on the one appears to have two distinct points.

Check other examples of the 1961 nickels. The Denver one in my circulated collection looks exactly like that on the 1. The plain one is a later die state and it wasn't on that one. But others may have examples to check. I'm a Cent guy myself.
