By keeping interest rates at 0.25%, they are ONLY running a trillion plus dollar annual deficit. Imagine what that would be if interest rates were at a historical norm of, oh, say 4-5%. At a rate of 5%, the interest paid on the national debt would increase by a factor of 20 times! IMHO, that would immediately collapse the government, the dollar, and the economy. I would miss the economy.

Sounds like a fair trade to me. This government is starting to be worse then the most brutal monarchys in history. At least with a terrible king people knew who the creaton was. People could overthrow and kill the ruler if he was truly so bad.

However today its all so cloak n dagger. The real rulers are in the shadows lurking. Squeezing the life out of unsuspecting millions controlling their lives, regulating what they do and who they do it with. Forming the general population into their own molded puppets as they peddle pieces of paper telling them its currency foreboding them from using anything but.

If the government would die along with the dollar and all we had to do was sacrifice the economy. I gladly offer up what help I can to see a new regime.

If China disrupted the silver market in the way the article said, wouldn't that devalue their US dollar holdings? Plus, if China did anything to tank the US economy, who would buy the merchandise that's being pumped out of Chinese factories by the metric ton? IMO, China can't stand on its own; not yet. Their economy and the the US economy is so interconnected that anyone rocking the boat would bring about the economic equivalent of MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction). China is certainly an up and coming regional powerhouse, but the country has a long way to go before it can take the place of the US. Maybe a generation or two. Still too soon for me but we may have time to salvage things, if only on a micro scale.

I hear New Zealand is nice.

Kinda got themselves painted into a corner.

Indeed they do... and their options for a good outcome are few and far between.

They do seem to be making King George III look better by the day.

Things like this seem to fall into the "be careful what you ask for because you just might get it" category. If the government collapses, there is no guarantee that what follows will be any better. It could, in fact, be FAR worse.

If you're interested in payment by fake checks and stolen cc, I'll be happy to forward all the $30-50,000 orders I get in email.

Doesn't do China much good to sell a metric ton of stuff to get paid in worthless dollars.

One would think, BF. But China has a metric ton of those worthless dollars and until they "slowly" diversify out of the dollar w/out the rest of the world taking note and panic selling the dollar, China will remain one of our best friends. As much as they help us by buying up our debt, many scholars believe that we help their totalitarian government stay in power by providing jobs to the Chinese masses. A US collapse would hit China like a meteor impact and it doesn't seem to be in China's best interest. It's truly a delicate balance both countries are high-wire walking, and I don't know how it will end. Most likely, badly.

Avoid getting a compulsory ID microchip implanted into yourself. They can be faked as well.

The only ID that can't be faked is your own: fingerprints, iris or DNA. They are God given, not foisted on you by Man.

Even that won't stop machines being programmed by dishonest people from discriminating against you!

I see that a lot of our younger members insist on thinking about China in terms of Western economics. Those of us who are older will recall that China is run by a bunch of Commies. For those not acquainted with people of this type, let's all recall that they: 1) hold political power most dear; 2) will make ANY sacrifice to ensure that #1 happens; 3) do not care about their citizens; 4) the ends always justifies the means, no matter how ghastly; and 5) murdering millions of their own citizens in the name of political purity is perfectly acceptable. Yes, they have put a better face on their beliefs but that is all it is - a thin veneer designed to fool those who do not really know them. So, no, they are NOT our friends. If they can sucker-punch us, they will. Count on it. At the moment, however, we have talked ourselves into thinking that we need each other. They send us cheap goods and we send them dollars and jobs. This is fine if you want to buy cheap goods, not so fine if you really need a job.

Even if the government turned out to be better, the loss of life getting between point A and B would likely be staggering. WW3 would not be out of the question.

Good call Ed, just thin about what a power hungry and total PARANOID NUT JOB Stalin was, and I think it is safe to say he was a communist. He flies under the radar because Hitler was way more nuts then him perhaps. Not way more, pretty even race there....

Ego's to big, as Stalingrad was not even a strategical plus for the Germans, they could have fared much better taking the oil from the south with all the resources an men they poured into Stalingrad in 43....

Stalin ordered the deaths of countless thousands of his own KGB agents an innocent people when they needed him the most, simply out of deranged anger an paranoia. Obviously it was harsh times, but ones true leadership abilities reign supreme in the most challenging of times, something our gov has come up short on in recent times in my estimation....

Obviously that is just one crazy man and not much of an example, but I think the communists as a whole have earned the reputation Ed pointed out as a whole group....

Hitler was a piker compared to the big time commies. Those who investigate the history of such characters say that while Hitler killed 6 million Jews, Gypsies, Slavs, and homosexuals, Stalin killed over 20 million people and Mao over 100 million people. While the records of such events are likely to be pretty spotty, such numbers boggle the mind for sure.

Agreed. Whatever happened, the loss of life would be both staggering and horrendous. Most of us understand this and are in no way cheering on this possibility. We just hope that it does not happen and that if it does, we will be able to get through those terrible times.
