Thanks guys! If people are willing to pay more than $100 for the 50-cent coin then I suppose this coin and stamp set is worth it at $141? What do you guys think?

Ordered as well. 10K sets available, which constitutes 10K of the 15K mintage of the 50-cent piece (confirmed with Canada Post rep). No wonder the 50-cent piece is so rare, its actual mintage alone is 5K.

And the COA will be included? I really hope there is only 15k all together.

Canda Post has just added more pictures. You can see the 25-cent coin, but the 50-cent coin is not shown. http://www.canadapost.ca/shop/colle...ecution=e1s1

What a surprise! Wouldn't have thought the RCM would allocate such a high percentage of the 50-cent coin's mintage to a special packaging option offered by Canada Post.

If the CP set count holds at 10,000, it should make things interesting regarding the individual coin's near-term market value. For example, why pay $200 for the individual 50-cent coin when you can pay $141 for it along with a bunch of other numismatic and philatelic items?

Long-term, maybe 15,000 coins is actually enough to satisfy the market now that we know the initial flurry of sell-outs was due to only 5,000 coins being available individually. If it is, selling prices are likely to come down from current levels. If not, who knows how high they will climb! Time will tell!

I just spoke with a RCM supervisor, and he indicated that it is a total of 15,000 50-cent pieces (including the 10,000 post office sets).

Thanks. Good to know it's been confirmed by both sides. Now it's time to see how soon this pre-sale at the Post will last. I don't think very many people would hoard a lot of sets at this price. Then perhaps 10,000 sets might be enough to satisfy both the numismatic and the philatelic demands. But I could be wrong, as always.

Btw, how collectible is that stock certificate? I found this through google:

IMO, the Mint should have disclosed the 10,000 coins that they had allocated to Canada Post when they initially offered them for sale. The description on the Mint website says that this coin is limited to 15,000 coins worldwide. In the absence of anything to the contrary, that implies the mint had 15,000 available to sell. Clearly, they did not and that almost certainly resulted in the inflated prices we are seeing now.

Also note that the Mint has curiously delay this coin until April 20th while CP is issuing their set two weeks earlier.

This makes me feel a little better. I have been confuzzled on how a copper coin can be so popular. The fact that there has only been 5,000 of them on the market explains this a little bit. I doubt the folder will depreciate the value of it since the folder costs so much more money. I rather pay $140 for the folder than $150 for the stand alone coin.

Really nice set. I don't really care about the stamps but I might have to pick this one up.

Tomorrow is issue day from Canada Post at least - time to raise this thread from the deep?

It seems that the CP issue has affected the 50 cent coin selling prices on ebay at least. Prior to this set being announced, selling prices peaked at $202 with several in the $160 range. After CP offered the set including the 50 cent, the selling prices have been around $130 with several auctions ending below $130 with no bids. There is a current auction ending in two days at $109 with no bids.

Does the price continue to trend down as the coins appear? Or is this a temporary dip?

For those who bought this coin, will you sell now or hold?
