I just got a new 1861-O half dollar and I would love to know who did it and when the hole was made. I don't think the hole ruins the coin. I think it adds to the history of the times. I believe this is a CSA minting and the crude hole could have been punched by "Johnny Reb" to wear. Please give me opinions and grade, it does not show but there is a lot of luster on both sides and try and pretend the hole is not there, thanks in advance, Ed

hard to pretend the hole isn't there, along with the rim problems but I believe it has AU details but the hole really kills the coin in my opinion, but if you like holed coins then this was a very nice coin before the hole was punched in it

A market always exists for holed coins with XF or higher details IMO.

Any hole obviously limits the number of interested buyers simply because the coin will always be considered 'altered' or even 'defective' merchandise etc.
