Timer, interesting! Seems like the Birthday Sets 2012 was a new idea (copied idea) from the US Mint? I Believe. Good for you!
More post info will let us know.

Yeah, it is quite strange that the Mint's web site doesn't say if they are clad or not, but I think if they were really giving out a silver half, they would mention it, since it would increase sales.

And Timer did say it said clad on the packaging. Look on the previous page.

still doesn't make sense to me to have clad coins for 20 bucks making one coin silver would fit the higher price, it is strange though if it really says clad?

Yes it says clad on the specs for the half...I spoke to both PCGS and NGC about this...they are stumped as to how to handle this. Said they would get back to me.

I wonder.....even though it passed the tissue test is there ANY way it could be wrong? Any way it still could be clad? Don't get me wrong I hope it's silver but I'm just curious.

I really don't think so. Here's another pic compared to a typical clad half dollar. The weight (13 grams), color (pure white), edge (all white -vs- copper band), and the tissue test all agree....it's silver. I'm just surprised that no one else has come up with one... I'm sure these aren't the only packaging errors...must have been all of them sent in a day or a run. But I keep searching Google and other forums and don't see anything. Maybe people just aren't checking their sets and just assuming they are clad....

Probably most of the people who got them didn't notice. It's not really a product intended for experienced numismatists who would immediately notice the difference.

Question for timer:

Are you able to check the half dollar (to see if it's silver) without destroying any of the packaging?
