I searched $50 in dimes and although no silver, I found some fun stuff. A 2003-P with two die cracks on the obverse, through the A of America and at the bottom or the torch. A 2006-P with the 'Denise the Menice' die chip, and a die crack at the bottom of the torch, and a 1986-P with a die chip between the date and bottom or Roosevelt.

I posted a picture of it in the error forum: https://goccf.com/t/21370

It looks like Roosevelt has a cowlick at the back of his head.

I never thought about doing this before.

Sounds like I will have better luck finding collectible coins this way, then with my metal detector, with less work.

Thanks for the great idea...Comerica here I come!!

I just found out that my father-in-law has about $100 in rolled wheat pennies that he got from his mother when she passed. According to him she kept every Wheat penny she came across. I'd love to search those rolls to see what he has.

Hi, has anyone that lives near a casino had any luck with rolled halves directly from the casino? I live in Shreveport, where we have casinos and my first $200 in halves from there was el-skunko- no 90% and no 40%. I was wondering if the casinos pre-search and remove the silver coins because maybe the slot machines don't take them/reject them. I was hoping that I could pick up my halves from the casino rather than the bank. But probably not.

I usually spend my halves as money for small transactions- it always gets an interesting comment. I've had a few go nuts over the bicentennial halves as if they are rare and a few ask if there are any silver, which of course I say "I don't know", just so they can stay excited. I've gone through thousands of dollars in halves and have never taken any back to any bank. I'm doing my part to get them back into circulation!

I've seen the many half dollar searchers here and realized I'm not alone and I find what most everyone else is finding- occasional Franklins, 1 Walker, a few circulated proofs; solid BU rolls (several 1976D, which I did keep; 2000D- 10 rolls). I have not yet found a coin past 2001, no commems, or Barbers. I actually have never gotten a full box of halves, but am really close to trying this as it is getting very ard to get halves from the bank anymore, at least where I live.

I have searched nickel rolls from casinos and they are as good as anywhere else- lots of pre-60s.

I've noticed a very significant reduction in the number of silver halves I find in boxes lately. Anyone else noticing the same thing?

Haven't posted in a while, so I'll try to keep it short.
Last Week

Halves - Box 1: 1NIFC, 1BF, 3x40%, Box 2: 3 NIFC, 1 BF, 1WLH(41-P), 1 90% K, 8x 40%, 1x 1986- D Ellis Island Commem (Clad), and 1 Balboa (Really good box for variety!), Box 3: Skunk :(
$100 Nickels (Mostly Cust. wrapped) - 12 pre 60's
$25 Pennies - 6 Wheaties, 8 BU Red 60's + S-mints
This week

Halves - Box 1: 4 x 40%, 2 x 90K, 1GP, 1 PF, Box 2: 5 x 40%, 5 NIFC, 2 PF, Box 3: 3 x 40% (Whoo, another week w/ no Skunks!)

The box where I only got 3 40% was almost all marked coins on the top, but at least I got something. Updated totals.
Got a box of nickels, which I'll update w/ tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I recently started searching penny rolls. I must say, its a blast. Out of 2 $25 dollar boxes, pulled out about 15 wheaties, and quite a few keepers for my books. Oldest wheatie being 1930.

The boxes I get are from Brinks, wrapped in clear plastic rolls. They seem so dirty. I have yet to open up paper rolls, but tomorrow during thanksgiving dinner I get a fresh $25 box from a small town bank. I hope these are better in quality.

I have not asked my bank if I can get different boxes yet. Should I be looking for something else I wonder? Also, when you return them, does your bank frown at you when you bring in $50 in pennies?

Ahh, well happy hunting!

Every bank frowns when I come in, lol...
Just return your coins to a different branch or Bank, that way you are not really inconveniencing them
I buy halves from BoA, rtn to a local CU and WF, pennies and nickels from anywhere, and return to a diff. bank, etc.

AND I NEVER FEEL GUILTY!! Why... because it is a banks job to handle money, so they can just deal, or lose a customer.

Also - nickels are fun to search - almost every roll seems to have a keeper...

I'm going through a box for the cent project and pulled out a nice red 1969s and a red 1973 both beautiful. The '69 has a fingerprint but otherwise nice. I also found a 1939s first wheat one and I've already been through half the box.

Madman I am wondering what bank you get your coins from. I am new and want to start looking through halves but I don't know which banks will let me order fed boxes. P.S. Nice Finds!

Another $25 box of pennies gone. Only 4 wheaties, 1 was horrible. Last 5,000 pennies and only 7 wheats :(

Maybe I'm wasting my time? I just keep hoping to find some great wheat, or an error or something. I keep a bunch for my books, but never seem to update any :(

Time for me to move on to hunt for silver or what?
