Okay, this is my first time and I'm in Toronto. Today was really beginner's luck. My finds are(remember, these are Canadians): a 1993 nickel to complete my birthyear set, a 1950 nickel, a 1962 cent, a 1958 cent, a 1967 centennial cent(comm.), a 1948 cent, a 1939 cent and finally, my find of the day: a 1953D Wheatie!!! This is my first time ever seeing a wheatie!! This is exciting. And the amazing thing is, this is all from only 12 rolls of pennies and five rolls of nickels!

Great thread and some great tips above.

I used to search rolls and change from about 1955 to 1963. In the early years would take $5 and go to one store and ask for dimes, search; go to the next store and exchange them for nickels, search; and so on and so on. Had almost a complete set of Buffalo nickels (all the 1913 both types), rosies, jeff's except for the 50-d and 39-d. Found lots of Indian Head pennies too, standing lib quarters, and Walking halves....ah, those were the days.

Recently started searching dimes, but with the posts above I have a yen to get some half dollar rolls!

I know the profit per hour is not acceptable as a means of livlihood, but someone above stated they search with nephews and and someone else with grandkids....that time together is worth much more than ANY coins you may find...life is short as also mentioned above, and true the coins won't remember but the kids will! Spend that quality time talking and teaching..it will pay huge dividends..I could drone on and on about how to do that to increase your kids and grandkids stake in life just by asking questions and encouraging answers..the coin search becomes the means not the end.

Madman, sound like your quote came from Robert O., close friend of Enrico Ferme; a very interesting pair of people!

Hello Ben,
Got a brick of circ cents fm my bank last week. Roll 31 had seven wheats (only wheats in the brick). The third one I looked at was a vf 1910 with the reverse rotated clockwise about 75 degrees. Don't know the value but its the first one I've ever seen and a keeper for sure.

Wow, could you post pics of it? If it is as much as you say, I think it would add a nice premium. Not to sure though. If you can, post some pics please.

I asked my son who lives in a small town in Wisconsin to stop
in at his local bank and purchase a few rolls of pennies and
see if they have some halves. Hope to see what he comes up
with when he comes to Chicago for Easter. I will let you all
know what the results are.

Managed to get 7 rolls of halves from a town about 20 miles away (that's all they had!), found nothing of interest in the 120 coins; perhaps they were all ready searched.

did notice that the TRUST on several seemed to be out of alignment with the "U" sligtly elevated and the "T" squeezed in agains the edge rim. is that anything? I didn't think it was because I saw so many like that (if you were to draw a straight line across the tops of the letters it would appear some are out of alignment).

My brother has a grocery store and It has been a great source for some terrific roll hunting. One day he called me and told me to come down to the store because he had something to show me. when I got there he showed me about twelve rolls of silver Canadian quarters ranging from 1937 to 1967. I walked out of there with $120.00 less in my pocket but very happy. The next week he called and told me to come down again. This time it was about twenty rolls of silver Canadian dimes. Another time it was about twenty rolls of George V & George 6 Canadian pennies. It appears like someone has died and cashed in the dearly departed's hoard of coins they had around. The rolls all get bundled together and stay together as they make there way through the system until the Brinks truck makes their next stop at a store. The last big thing was when I was going through a check out at my brothers store I noticed 2 BU 1957 Canadian cents in my change. I don't know how it works in the states but in Canada finding one would be something to do the Happy Dance over. A month previous I had paid $6.00 for for an uncirculated 1957 Canadian penny with not as much luster as the ones I was holding in my hand. I glanced at the till and noticed the penny compartment was full of bright shiny copper pennies and immediately went looking for my brother. The Brinks truck had made a delivery earlier in the day and we checked the boxes of pennies. 5 boxes (50 rolls per box) were filled with BU cents from 1957 thru 1963. The funny part is that 1957 seems to be the dominant year as of the 10 or so rolls that I have opened half the roll is usually made up of 57's. These are all newly machine rolled coins so someone must have had a hoard stashed away and then dumped all at once onto the market. Hopefully I may older dates in these rolls. Here is a sample of a roll that I opened.

Chrycopaul, wow!! That is beautiful.

I searched through some pennies and nickels today, a 49 and 56 penny, a 58 wheatie, and my find of the day, a Jamaican 5 dollars mixed in with the nickels. No halves again. What'e up with the Canadian banks?
