Great thread and some great tips above.
I used to search rolls and change from about 1955 to 1963. In the early years would take $5 and go to one store and ask for dimes, search; go to the next store and exchange them for nickels, search; and so on and so on. Had almost a complete set of Buffalo nickels (all the 1913 both types), rosies, jeff's except for the 50-d and 39-d. Found lots of Indian Head pennies too, standing lib quarters, and Walking halves....ah, those were the days.
Recently started searching dimes, but with the posts above I have a yen to get some half dollar rolls!
I know the profit per hour is not acceptable as a means of livlihood, but someone above stated they search with nephews and and someone else with grandkids....that time together is worth much more than ANY coins you may find...life is short as also mentioned above, and true the coins won't remember but the kids will! Spend that quality time talking and teaching..it will pay huge dividends..I could drone on and on about how to do that to increase your kids and grandkids stake in life just by asking questions and encouraging answers..the coin search becomes the means not the end.
Madman, sound like your quote came from Robert O., close friend of Enrico Ferme; a very interesting pair of people!
