I don't think the forum war is between MC and non-MC members, I think it more likely between pure collectors and those in the coin business.
In this 'Hobby', each needs the other, I can appreciate that. I just think the community forum is the place to talk about the coins...not the business.
Respectfully, DCadon

Yes, I'd have to agree with you on that. Advance sales of only 1 coin per account would make more sense. Though at double the previous mintage I wouldn't have expected it to go so fast.

Historical + Projected mintages
ladybug - 5,000 bumble bee - 10,000 grasshopper - 15,000 DRAGONfly - 888,888
Enough for everyone! and pretty good business at $139.95 each ladybug $699,750 bumble bee $1,399,500 grasshopper $2,099,250 DRAGONfly $124,399,876 Just a few more bugs and we could balance the national budget. I don't see any downside to this plan.

I don't really mind the sellout. I can see how it would be annoying to many, but that's life. I'm just wondering if the mint is going to double the mintage again for the next one in the series based on this quick sellout.
Do they care at all about the interest on the secondary market to see what should be done with the next coin in the series? (Serious question I'm not sure if they care what the price will be once it's off their shelves.)

Maybe they could make a Harper coin with a Venetian Glass mole. That could balance the national budget.

If only pure collectors purchased them, you probably would have been able to purchase one from the mint at a the issue price. Well in my case I only purchased the ladybug within the last month so it would've sold out unless you are supposing that there would be less than 5k collectors who would want this coin. I agree with other posters - a limit of one would have made more sense. There may well have been mc members who missed out as well. I basically felt that I would have to be crazy to not buy more than one coin.

yes it should have been 1 but since it wasn't I got the limit like most others probably did if it was 10 I would have gotten 10. I also missed out on the 1st one and had to pay twice the issue price but I am not complaining about it. Also what's wrong with making money on coins is it against the law to profit on them when you have the chance too like the gulo gulo wolverine which I selling for up to $3000

Speculators and dealers are essentially the same. National dealers like J&M, colonial, and Gate West will up their sale price as soon as they see the coin's value increase on the secondary market. If private, mom and pop speculators don't snatch up the extra coins, dealers likely will. Even collectors (whenever the time comes to sell) will not sell at or lower than issue price if it can be helped. The RCM, after all, must make money to survive as well. Their method to essentially mint as many as the market will absorb gave way to the more recent taking to increased variety of low mintage coins. It's inevitable that coins will sell out, with or without people hording. But definitely, it sucks when coins sell out this fast!

10,000 bumble bees sold out in just 4 days. The public will not be happy come Monday morning. I would not be surprised to see a higher mintage and price for the next coin.

I certainly encourage the speculators (elkslayer,et al) to post here. They have an expert read on which issues maybe hot, and share it here so we don't get left out. This is a coin forum where prices and hard to get mintages are a topic that interests everyone. Elkslayer and others who follow the market more closely than the rest of us, please continue with your informative posts.

I do too. Just Don't get me wrong, I too appreciate the speculations from the dealers 'et al', my objection is to them discussing their 'business' such as how they hoarded so many of 'X-coins' while others missed out due to sell outs prior to release to the public. This is right up there with ticket scalpers as far as I'm concerned. I know it goes on, but I don't think it needs to be bragged about on a friendly forum.
