Quote: I tend to default into gallows humor rather quickly. Yeah, I think that we all tend to do that to some extent. If we can't laugh at a bad situation, our only other option is to cry. Quote: I'm thinking it's hard to separate collecting PM's and preparing for potentially more difficult times ahead. For me, they go hand in hand. Agreed. When I tell a family member about real money vs. fiat, the first thing they ask is, "Why are you buying silver?", so then the discussion goes right to politics and economics. Quote: I have been craving a double whopper with chez ever since I saw that post Ed.... Lol, Hawk! We've been having some gorgeous weather here for the past few days and are taking advantage of it by firing up the gas grill. Even just hamburgers and hot dogs taste great when grilled over a flame. Tonight's menu includes BBQ'd boneless pork chops.

Quote: I do not think that we will have a large scale nuclear war. No other country really wants to be totally annihilated. Far more likely a terror-wrist creating a "who threw that?" "doesn't matter, we have three seconds to shoot back" scenario.

Quote: One huge problem in this is that we don't even make transformers any more. Yep, we import them all. Not smart, IMHO. And our reserve supply is about zero. I read something like if we lost a dozen of the huge transformers, it would take three years to replace them.

Quote: Of much more significance to these people is that we would make THEM extinct. The world can take a flying leap for all they care but when they are looking down the barrels of our nuke arsenal, it will be a whole 'nuther matter to them. First worlders would be far less able to survive being kicked from the sidewalk to the curb. It's no big drop from the curb to the gutter. "We can bomb them back to the stone age!" So what, that sets them back to last Tuesday.

True enough. The real issue in this, though, is "Do the people who have nukes really understand this?". If not, then, LOOK-OUT! And you only had to tell the computer once, instead of a new tinhorn dictator every month. When you have nothing, you have nothing to lose.

Quote: Real Q, or just grilled? That would depend on YOUR definition of "real", wouldn't it? It's real enough for us. I make my own sauce. Nothing fancy but it is a testy blend of readily available ingredients. Quote: When you have nothing, you have nothing to lose. They have their lives, their families, and their homeland. Question is, do they value these things or not? If not, then it is likely that we will have GAME ON! at some point. Quote: Far more likely a terror-wrist creating a "who threw that?" Indeed. OTOH, at that point we just might not really care WHO did it. The list is short enough that all bases could just as well be covered as any 1 of them. Quote: And our reserve supply is about zero. I read something like if we lost a dozen of the huge transformers, it would take three years to replace them. Yeah, Fredd, that is similar to what I have read. Not exactly what one would call the best of planning, is it? Quote: It's no big drop from the curb to the gutter. True enough and if that was all that it amounted to, no biggie. Unfortunately for the bad boys, that is not all that it amounts to. No EMP for them. We're talking an obsidian moonscape as far as their eyes can see... for about a nano second, that is... and their ancestors, if any, can start farming that territory in about 5,000 years or so.

Hawk, I imagine you know your BBQ since you live near ground zero for the best pulled pork in the country!

Oh one of my favs a nice pulled pork BBQ sandwich from one of my old work spots with nice dish called corn pudding. Basically like a sweet corn casserole.... The restaurant in which I work now certainly does not specialize in BBQ, but we have this amazing half rack of ribs, nice season dry rub. To grab a rib or two fresh out of the oven, falls right off the bone an tastes good minus sauce. I am a sauce guy though, and once they get that nice BASTE brushing right before they leave the grill , well that is one of those things that makes livin worth wild to say the least ....

Quote:I hear the McRib is back at McDonald's, if that helps. Actually, I kind of like the Mc Rib. It's MUCH better than any of their hamburgers and my then teenaged son and I used to watch football while dining on Mc Ribs and fries in front of the TV in the basement. Good times and good memories for sure.

MMMMMM-McRib. Must get food. Must go to the "Golden Arches". Silverhawk74 got my 2009 2 oz. Kookuburra on the Bay so you can stop looking. Fairly good price at the time of purchase. Feels good to have that round again. Who would have thought that silver would drop after my purchase. Go figure.

Q is meat smoked at low temperature for long hours. Done right, it has its own flavor, and falls off the bone. Places like Damon's boil the meat, then finish by grilling and covering it with sauce. I like both, but once you've had the real thing, you'll understand.
