Something tells me that he would not be bothering to post this if he didn't think that he could hook a few fish in this pond. I'm sure that there are people out there who would jump at the chance to sell uncle Joe's old penny or silver coin collection for whatever they can get.

I emailed him telling him I had 1000 silver dollars to sell he told he could only buy 10 this week at $15 per LOL. I guess this falls under the category of not poking a sleeping bear but F it 15X is a bit ridiculous even to me.

Look for my add on Craig's list. I'm going to give you 16x face for all silver and 3x for indian heads. No Questions asked! I'll bet he does get some action out of this little enterprise.

That is probably close to what those traveling coin buying "road shows" pay when they set up shop in some local hotel looking to buy gold, silver, and coins, and then disappear into the night.

Seems like an odd little ad. I mean, if someone can recognize silver coins from clad, wouldn't they also have some idea as to their current value?

Hawk - Heh! Oh, no. I'm certain the Craig's List dude knows his silver. What I was trying to say is that if the people reading his ad know the difference between silver and clad wouldn't they also have some idea as to it's current value?

I'm thinking it's a badly written ad and Mr 15X is gonna get a lot of worthless responses if he gets any at all.

Well lets think about this an use a Morgan for example....

Most places (coin stores) with silver current spot price may pay around 18 to 20 bucks for a Morgan, esp if it is circulated an nothing to write home about via condition. And that is just a ballpark estimate off the top of my head with doing zero math calculations....

So 15 x face would be 16 bucks, not the best deal by any means but perhaps not the worst if you had no other options and could care less about uncle Joe's junk coin jar collecting dust an taking up shelf space. And lets say it is close to Christmas and little Johnny wants that new G.I. Joe with the kung fu grip an this sell would provide more then enough money needed to acquire that gift. Sorry, I stole that line from "Trading Places" when the two scum bag brothers are teaching one Reginald Jackson about stock commodities like oranges, gold bars, and of course bacon, as he predicts correctly the drop in pork prices, rof....

Check your math, Hawk. We're not playing horseshoes & hand-grenades, here.

I have a teller that I often get coin rolls from. She saved some Mercury dimes and some Ben Franklins for me, but she really liked them so I told her she should keep them. I saw her a few months later, and she was excited to to tell me she had sold them and made some money. She sold $4.50 face for $50 to one of the cash for gold stores in the mall during Christmas.

Needless to say, I told her next time to see me before selling. But, the moral is that she got ripped off but in her mind she made money, so she was happy with the sale. Ignorance is bliss, and this guy is profiting off of it.

I get a monthly magazine from the farm group I buy insurance from. It's got a small section in the back that has maybe a dozen classified ads. There is always a coins wanted ad. Two years ago it jumped from 3x face up to 6x face, & this month it went up to 10x face. I have to believe the guy is able to buy at those prices or he wouldn't keep paying for the ad.

The funny part is I told him I have a 1000 count bag of Morgans and all he could buy is 10 of them at $15 each. So not only is he lowballing people he doesn't have the finances to buy more then 10 Morgans at a time.LOL
