Quote: Review the "tapes"...hee-hee, when's the last anyone's used a vcr? Are you guys stuck in the 90's? If you check out security companies that supply products, yhou would see that many still do use VHS tapes. True not the best but many still do use them. Why purchase a new system if yours is working? My neighbor has a VHS security system for his garage. I know a coin store that still uses them and why not, they are working. Or go make a Zerox of this when most use almost anything but Zerox.

I've noticed some tellers get confused by coins, especially ones they don't see every day. I've had tellers give me incorrect change when I get halves. They're two to a dollar, how hard is that? I went to dump my halves today at the bank where I keep my accounts. I had gotten four rolls from another bank in town, minus two coins, meaning $39 going in to dump. The coin machine managed to count $27. I had stopped in earlier to deposit a check, fortunately, and had told her I would be back in roughly an hour with about $40 in half dollars, so she credited me in full on my word. Very weird experience, having the coin machine count me short $12. Here's hoping something turns up for you, coinguy.

Sorry this happened to you! No fun at all.
My only advice on the subject is that maybe not visit this particular branch in the future, or for a while? I know I have run into a few banks that seem to be more hassle than they are worth to trade in coins, and I don't go back.
Good luck!

Well for one, with a digital security system they don't have to constantly rewind, change out, and lose previous recordings.

Hope it goes well for you. Something similar happened to me. A few years back I always stopped at a local gas station on my way to work to buy 2 mt.dews for the day. At about noon my phone started exploding with calls from the bank and emails of not only my checking but my savingsand creditcard all being overdrawn. ( I had them linked together for safty). I asked my bank teller if she could see what caused the problem. She replied it was the 2,000 mt dews you bought this morning at the gas station! I couldn't believe it. You wouldn't believe the emotion that overcame me. I remember I was very tired that morning and didn't look at the display on the register and was never offered a recipt. I called the gas station and told them the situation. The first person I talked to pretty much laughed at me so I asked for a manager. They said there was no way to prove I didn't make the purchase! I explained that someone would remember me leaving with a pallet of soft drinks that morning and please review their tapes. He explained that they record over their tapes every 12 hours and at this point they where gone. He said he would look into it and get back to me. Meanwhile every acct I have is overdrawn and occurring fees and I have no money to speak of. 3 days of waiting later I finally get a call. He believed me mostly because they dont even carry that many in stock and it showed them having -1998. The refunded my money and had to send faxes to my bank for them to cancel my fees. After this I was glad it was over, or so it seemed. 15 days later at the end of the month I got the same calls. At this point I was furious. The manger somehow resent my purchase through and it happened all over again! Needless to say I now have a signed hand written apology from the CEO of bp hanging on my wall and I also got a years supply of free mt dew :). This was 8 years ago. To this day I always ask for a receipt and never leave without looking it over. I hope your problem turns out ok. I know it can feel like everyone is against you

Banks balance their books on a daily basis. Unless some other transaction was exactly $100 off or the teller outright stole the money (possible but very unlikely - not worth risking a job that can pay as much as 30k/year), the bank is probably not at fault.
How, may I ask, did you not realize that she had given you 10 dime rolls instead of 20? Should have been pretty obvious IMHO. I can understand a mistake if a teller gives you 5 twenty dollars bills instead of 10 but coin rolls are heavy.

That would be funny if it wasn't true.
In the old days "we don't even own that many bottles" would have been the end of the discussion.

Yeah. I miss the good ole days lol. And yeah I don't have any of my Accts linked together anymore. The other day my card wouldn't swipe and the clerk had to go in the back and drag out the old dusty card image maker you know the kind that imprints your card on paper. I had to show the guy how to use it. I wonder how many kids today have never even seen one

She gave me a rashon of it when I opened a 2nd account at my coin buy bank. I don't know what she is afraid of but I don't like the idea of one person's clumsy finger. We use debit cards all the time, and we would be screwed if our account was locked up for even a few days.

Something to keep in mind, VHS and TAPE backup is cheap, storage arrays are not. and to preemptively argue the next point, CD/DVD is not effective because you have to first record, then write to disk. As a manual process, what you save in equipment/consumables, you lose in man hours. SD, I sure hope they get your $100 back to you. I'd be super upset if it were me. that's like 2 months worth of gas for me.
