I have a couple of questions pertaining to Shield nickel Varieties: 1. Do you happen to have a good example of an 1883 FS-012.9? I believe that it is the RPD that has fairly prononced offset doubling of the "88" in the date and possibly a trace of the "3". I am wondering how much of a premium it would have in a solid MS grade over the non variety 1883, as there is one that I have my eye on. 2. A few years back, I saw what appeared to be an 1867 with a triple date punch, strong on the seven, which appeared to have repunches north and further north of the original. Do you know what FS number that might be and possibly have a good example of one? Thanks! Chris

Hi all just wanted to point this "regular" error which people keep falling for on ebayhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/US-5-CENTS-...t_500wt_1202this is not a 1883/1882 as listed, it is a filled in 2 , most of the known true overdates for this year you can see the 2 between the 8 & 3 I have contacted the seller with no response at the moment and it has two bids so far .. trying to post a picture but photobucket is messing about at the moment

I have one of the 12.8 which shows 1 between and below the 1 & 8 .. but non of the 1883s that I have seen or know about have a prominent 88 RPD most are within the numerals.. if it was a pronounced (say) north RPD I think it could have quite a premium .. certainly I would like to own it, MS60 price + about 25% With the 67 it could depend a lot on which reverse die it was with. also I think you mean a south RPD as you start with where the first punch was towards the final one .. There are five of these which spring to mind F-22, FS-002.3, Breen 2471 & F-23, Fs-001.9 & F-26 & F-38, FS-002.5 and even F-54, FS-002 .. but without seeing it I cannot truly tell you all the best and hope I was some help

Are you referring to Print Scrn? Yup, just make sure what you want appears on the screen. Works with all sorts of "protected" pages, too.

dooly - awesome thread you statrted, I too like the Sheild Nickels, they are going to be newest collector series to concentrate on. Already have the Fletcher book and just ordered the Monohan bible as well should show up this week. I am doing the same with Two Cent Pieces, the two series are very similar, both being Longacre designs and both having pretty plain desings with just a number and luarel weath on the reverse and a shield on the obverse. Both also have a lot of neat errors to hunt down.

I don't see no rays, you see no rays? Use http://www.irfanview.com to resize images to under 100K, then upload them to ccf.

Hi back again with a couple of new "rays" one of each year alittle closer look at them the 66 is quite a late die stage as the die cracks are running through the shield .. looked at thousands and I would say that this one is one of the latest I have seen (I have marked the 8 position as 5 (Fletcher) and hopefully someone may be able to identify a Early and later one from this die at some stage The reverse is a somewhat newer die and has some great die gouges between the stars and rays (marked in pink) the 67 in contrast is a early die state with no die cracks .. bit of a rare site on a shield * position as 6 The reverse also is very lacking in die cracks but has a great rim Cud which seems a bit unusual .. also a weak Number 4 star but good detals to the rest so a weak strike rather than ware
