Here's my best multi error shield.

Counted to 11 Die Cuds just on the letters, then some repunched dates and so on...

made a thread about it a while back

Nice coin .. would love it in my collection

the coin is a Obverse hub B Reverse hub IIC Wide date variety

And looks from your photos to be F-408 FS-005.5

With only 3 graded so far .. so get it off to NGC or make a quick buck and sell it to me !

In my opinion I would give it a EF-45

I got the hub part of your text, then it was all jibberish to me.

And looks from your photos to be F-408 FS-005.5

refers the the Flecher number of particular error

FS = numbers were assigned by Bill Fivaz and J.T. Stanton as found in The CherryPickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties and/or Cherrypickers' News
Which means that if graded you should get a variety plus on it.. unlike a lot of shields ..

I need a fair number of coins worth being gradded before I send them in since I live over seas. And I'm not quite there yet:P

Here is a recent one I did for a collector from the USA

Hi nice shield

Its-All-About-The-Shield-Nickel

if all is ok with the coin you should get between a 55 and 58 for the details

I have had a closer look at it and it is a Obv:A reverse Hub IIA
it is hard from sellers photos .. you need to do a scan of it flat when you get it .. the flat date is normal for the series never mind the date.. on zoomed I would say that there is evidence of a RPD on the 1 & 8 in a north direction (as marked red on the large picture. there is nothing in Fletcher with the date in this position and I question that it seems like an early die state coin so this may be a early mutable RPD coin ..IE the weak date was spotted early in the life of the die and then corrected with new hand punched numbers which could have obliterated the RPD or created a MPD

as for Grading where I have marked with the yellow arrow seems to be scrach marks from improper cleaning .. but this also could be the angle the photo was taken

lover the rim Cud and seems to have some nice die cracks and you almost got all the full stars

I just keep getting non-responsive kill pages coming up

I've found that to be a problem when you try to do too much or too long on your nincompute. Shutting down programs you're not actively using helps, or rebooting.

What OS and how much RAM do you have?

dooly-

Get a small bottle of 100% acetone (used to remove glue-on fingernails, or in the paint dept) and soak those coins with green crud or black residue (1866+7). Use a covered glass container (no plastic) in a well ventilated area, overnight.

Aside from making your coin look bad, they can spread and eat into the coin.

Rinse well, using distilled water.

Dooly, you seem to know your way around a shield and all the different dies and stuff.

Maybe you can help me out and date this one? It's an 188*. not sure if I see a 3 or a 2. Sometimes I see a 3 and sometimes a 2. Wish I would see a 3/2 though:P

Hi thanks for the question .. Unfortunately the 82 and 83 have the same Obverse and reverse die so you cannot pick it out from that.. from my experience of looking at thousands of shields I would say it is a 1882.. .. there are no die markers on your coin visable which would say it was a 3/2 .. shame better luck next time

5-star thread...love the idea and really like this classic! I don't have many, mostly ones I picked up dirt cheap from dealer bargain bins. I'll look through later tonight and see if there is anything worth posting here.
