I LOVE Shield nickels. I have purchased 29 of them in the past 3 weeks from ebay and have spent an avg. of only $6 a piece. Which is crazy because I have gotten several VF details for $9/$10. It is SUCH an undervalued coin IMHO. I just won a coastal coin company auction on a "never been cleaned...AU/BU Choice" for $39...ARE you KIDDING ME?

http://cgi.ebay.com/320917184682

I'll post pics as it should be here tomorrow or Saturday

I am trying to get the entire series except for the rarities since I cant afford those. But of the 29 I have gotten, like I said, I got either real lucky or people just dont care about this coin. I mean I bought so many because I want to choose the premium ones and I'll resell the rest or even gift them to friends and family but if you check my feedback and view the ones I have gotten, man, like I said, people must hate this coin.

so, are all of the price charts wrong? why are people letting $45 VF30 go for $10?

Hi .. yes I was watching that one myself nice pick up .. long may it continue that there is something still affordable in the usa coinage .. I still do not get the vast amount spent on "modern" coinage when you can pick up something with a bit of age and a classic design for a little amount

Dooly, I couldn't agree more. Without question I would never spend $45 on a 2012 silver eagle, 90% silver or not, if I can get something choice that looks like a beautiful Shield nickel or a seated quarter/dime/half dime. Those designs are just beautiful. And the history. I mean, I hold a 160 year old coin in my hand and I think about who first had this? what did they spend it on? what kid had this rattle around in his piggy bank and for how long? who decided to finally collect it?

you dont get to ask those questions and let your imagination run wild when you hold a 2012 Cameo Proof GW Quarter in your hand. Its like reading a book versus watching the movie; read the book man. let your imagination take over.

anyhoo, long live this historic nickel.

Although this is not the aforementioned NGC Details 1866 (which should be delivered today ) with the rotated die, what do you think? The only thing that I saw was the die crack/break over the OF AMERICA.
