That story happened in 1993, but it was funny, especially that a manager and security guard had no clue what a $2 bill was. Tough to realize they exist, when they don't circulate.

Ever since I realized a few months ago that I can go to the bank anytime I want and pick some up, I've been getting $20's worth every week and spending them when I go out to lunch. Most people act like I've given them a rare and precious gift, except for the folks at the Chinese restaurant who don't even look at them and just hand me my change...

I leave $2 bills as tips when I go out to eat. Always have a few stashed in my wallet.

I love the reaction I get in your beautiful country when I use them on vacation... It seems most of the population is oblivious to them. I'm used to paying for things in "toonies" so a 2-dollar denomination is a must for me.

I know this is about spending $2's..

Look for stars, errors and fancy sn's before you spend them as some are of these notes are worth more than $2.

Ah yes, the fun that can be had with spending $2s. I always make sure to have a few with me for special occasions, and it only get more fun with dollars and halves thrown into the mix. No great stories yet, but I did get a few dollar discount a while back when a friendly seller refused to take my Ikes because they were "silver dollars".

How many of the Presidential dollars have been/will be released?

I got one in change in vegas (martin van bruhel or something) and thought it was a nice coin... if someone wants to collect me a full set how many dollars would be there and would they be willing to trade for some English coins (commemorative 50p's and £2 coins?)

Don't get me wrong I like that I live here but seeing you guys talk about your currency I wish I could teleport over there for a couple of days and pick up some cheap additions for my US album.

As an Aussie I do not understand why they 50 cent and two dollar note is not used, the one dollar coin I do because of the banknote. Here we use all the current coins and banknotes.

Young clerks generally marvel at deuces when I spend them, some questioning their authenticity.
Older clerks at times comment that they haven't seen one of them in a long time.
I got a strap a couple of months ago (found 2 star notes in it too) and have been spending them whenever I get the chance.
I usually carry 5 with me and replenish my wallet stock every morning.

@DavidUK,

I believe the rule is that only deceased Presidents can be put on these coins, so at present there would be, erm . . . . I THINK 39 coins (Can someone older please check me on this? The still-living Presidents being Carter, Bush, Clinton, Bush Jr., and Obama?).

I'd actually like to get some UK pounds or non-decimalized currency (I get 5 pence and twenty pence relatively often at work, for some odd reason, but not really the other denominations or anything old, like shillings) for a project I'm working on and I'm getting close to my 250-to-start-a-trade post count--want to keep in touch? I get AU Presidential coins in my drawer at work all the time and I'd be happy to ask at my local bank to fill out a set.

Nina, great idea but you don't accept email. I am sure we could do some trading in the future.

I just ordered a strap of $2 bills from my local bank and will pick them up tomorrow. I'll check for star notes and interesting serial numbers, of course, but the rest will be just for spending.

All right, I just picked up my strap of $2 bills. They asked me if I wanted new bills or whatever they had available, and I said I'd take whatever they had (they claimed it would take longer to process if I wanted new bills).

Well, I ended up getting 100 crisp, new, sequentially numbered $2 bills (Series 2003). No star notes, unfortunately, and no inherently interesting serial numbers (radar, ladder, binary, etc.). However, they are numbered from 04231901-04232000 (or 04/23/1900 - 04/23/2000, if you catch my drift). I'm sure they would make great gifts for people who were born on April 23 anytime during the last century or who had some other important event happen on April 23, but I'm not sure they're worth holding onto just for that. Pity the serial numbers didn't include 04262003, since that's my wedding anniversary...

I suppose I could try selling them on ebay, but the odds seem pretty slim that I would put the right serial number up for sale right when somebody is looking for it, and I suspect I would end up wasting a lot of money looking for the right buyer to come along for each note.
