Just a quick heads up, if not buying, always nice to browse - the auction catalogue was uploaded today!

Few things on my "wouldn't mind list", not committing to turning up just yet. Will have a chat to the boss tomorrow about being sick in 2 weeks ;)

Some nice coins, but certainly not a great auction, everything seems way way overpriced to me.

I will be bidding in the ancients, gold coins and World coins sections of this sale.
I agree, there seems to be overpricing on their estimates, but if you study the catalogue over a number of days, and carefully bid, it is possible to be successful at a good price on carefully selected lots.

Over the years I have done reasonably well on Status International auctions, but quite a lot of effort on lot selection has to be done.

I usually pay in cash, and pick up lots I have successfully bid on in person.

I have just reviewed every lot in the gold coins, ancients, and World coins of this sale.

All of the World coins are way over the condition that I can afford for my collection, and I think the estimates in the World coins are also too high for the condition for me.

I will submit low bids for about 5 or 6 lots in the gold coins and ancients sections. I normally get a catalogue posted to me, with a bid sheet. I will examine the catalogue in the two sections only, before submitting a single written absentee bid for each lot that I am interested in.

I will then attend the view day for only those lots I am interested in, at which time I will submit my bid sheet.

With a sale such as this, I ALWAYS like to examine the coin in hand for which I may submit a bid.

I never attend the auctions like this, and I have never been caught in a bidding war as a result. If someone else wants to pay more for a particular coin that what I am prepared to pay, they can have it. At least I save money on that lot!

I have since reviewed the gold and the ancients sections, and have noted in detail those lots that I would be interested in. That list has come down to three coins.
With low bids, I would be lucky enough to be successful on two of them. That would be enough money spent for me!

I am interested in two lots Sel. Luckily, my bids will be in the shilling section; will leave the gold to you ;)

Actually, I am not an active collector of Australian coins. Been there, done that.

Had an Adelaide Pound, once....

All of my bids will be for coins between 1,000 and 1,900 years old.

I have since checked the lots of coins that I am interested in against the VCOINS site. All of the coins that I am interested in appear to be very good value for money at the price levels that I am prepared to bid at.

I now know that I will be quite satisfied with my purchases, IF I am lucky enough th win them! Nothing like a guarantee like THAT, before you even receive the sale catalogue through the post!

I was a bit disappointed in the catalogue - it doesn't feel like they have added much new stock in my areas since last time (I've noticed that in my areas of interest, the catalogue mostly has coins which didnt sell from last time). I will agree that their catalogue can be a bit over-priced, but a great deal can be had if you look carefully enough.

just a tip, look at your local general auctions, plenty of deceased estates go in to them, i'v been buying coins for the past 10 years through this avenue and always cheaper than sole coin auctions.

All of the coins that I am looking at are actually on the cheap end on the reserve. But I don't think that will happen to be honest.
