Picked up 10 halves for $100 on the way home today. I have been buying mercs at $20 face for the past couple weeks but my dealer wanted melt for the qtrs and halves.

$20 per face. So $2 per but he only wants to sell by the 10. He's probably sitting on $200 in mercs.

I remember having the option of purchasing as much pre-64 junk silver as I could afford for 10x face. I didn't bite. I believe the spot price of silver was $13-14 then. I was just about ready to begin buying $100 worth every month when the big silver spike of 2011 occurred, so I was left holding an empty bag in the end. I guess this is a cautionary tale for those who are waiting to buy silver at a lesser price than where it currently sits.

There were a lot of folks who, after it peaked around $50 an ounce, thought $45 was a buying opportunity. So that's a cautionary tale too...

I think now is a good time to purchase silver. The current drop in silver prices should be seen as a buying opportunity. There is too much uncertainty in the world right now and I believe silver is just sitting there waiting to see what happens with the EU, more importantly Greece. Iran is currently allowing UN nuclear inspectors, but as history tells us, that can change at any moment. Unemployment numbers in the US have come down slightly, but it is not enough to make much of a difference. Then you have the upcoming Presidential election. All of these factors can play a part in which direction silver takes.

Personally, I see opportunity for the buyer at the current time.

It wasn't that long ago you could buy rolls of halves and quarters for $120 delivered! 3 years ago silver was $12/oz!

When I was in junior high school ('77-'78) local buyers were paying 3X face for 90%! We sold a bunch.

I remember being able to pick up a nice Morgan or Peace dollar for around 12 dollars. It wasn't too long ago when Silver was around 5 dollars. Now I am picking up 1 ounce silver bars for just over $29.00 each.

As much as my short term losses would be, I hope silver drops into the teens again. I really really do. Golld should drop too, so I can get my type set examples.

Regardless of your cost basis, it's exciting to see a buying opportunity like this. It's tough, though. The temptation to hold off on buying until someone calls bottom is almost primal. I fought back today and bought sweet pile of Franklin halves to add to my 90% silver collection.

IMHO, this is the perfect market to buy modestly but regularly into this PM price drop.

The junk prices are dropping to 20:1, but the 90% mint sets are still holding their value. I want to see the ripple effect into the mint set market. I have a few items to buy!

I bought a roll of BU Morgan dollars right about that time (with a premium that made it closer to $60 per coin), thinking that the price of silver was about to skyrocket and that it might be my last chance to buy some.
