My dad has let me take over his Lincoln Cent collection, which he had as a kid. He has everything from 1909 to 1946, minus the SVDB, 31-S and a few other early S coins. Also, no 22-Pl (which I have since acquired). He found both an 09-S and a 14-D in circulation. I began collecting in 1972 and have everything since then. The only time I look for anything out of circulation is when I find a wheatie, a modern S issue, or the coin of the new year.

Quote: It's a very difficult task! As you well know, I've been working on it for years. Of course, I have all of the coins but I am constantly seeking up grades. It's never "good enough" for me. I'm always seeking not only high grades but full strikes, especially with full steps. I have some that should be in slabs and should hit top-pop.
I have a few top pops as well probably but no reason to grade them since they aren't for sale. My best is an '88-D that is fully Proof Like and shows no marking even under a 5x glass. The strike is sharp and the copper sheathing is intact with no bubbles. It's easily a 69 and could get a bump for being beautiful. It's got a sister that came out of the same package that is just as PL but not as near perfect. If you keepyour eyes open and look at lots of coins you can find some really spectacular coins. Most people just ignored the post-'64 issues. Large quantities of a few dates exist but nice ones can be so few and far between that even large quantities won't assure there are many Gems.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I am currently collecting Lincolns hoping to acquire one from each year. Most a from circulation, although I am starting to hunt rolls. I currently am missing years:
1909 1910-3, 1915-9 1921-8 1930-4, 1937-8 1941-2 1954-5,1959 1961, 1964-5, 1967
My ultimate goal is to have one of each mint with the different varieties. I'm about 25% completed with this goal. I am not too concerned with condition. I enjoy the looking through my pocket change or roll hunting for new additions. I know I will probably have to spend the money for key dates, but that will come later.

I find it humorous that people have ignored the post 64 cents. Some of my best memorials have been had for like $1 or less each at coin shows. The dealers are ignorant and I love it! I always go through their inventory of memorials at shows looking for the well-struck, gem coins. It's a LOT of work but worth it when you find one worthwhile. The other thing, the TPG's usually don't grade them correctly IMO. Strike issues are often ignored in favor of luster. Just because someone like PCGS assigns a high grade doesn't automatically mean it's a superior coin.

Presently have 10 complete sets of Lincoln Cents. Each set is progressively in higher grades from #1 to #10. Sort of difficult photo since taken with slides in place over coins. Set #1 is basically all MS grades such as the example here. All are in Whitman Classic Albums and include the silly 22 plain, 55, 72, 95 Doubled Dies, All proofs where indicated in the Albums.

I'm so so envious of those with a higher coin budget than me ! ........... WOW ! Carl ....... 10 complete sets in ANY condition is just simply amazing...... I'm collecting on two different Lincoln albums.....both 1909 to present, basically, but there will always be 2 or 3 coins that I'll never be able to afford to own.....

I was excited to complete my Lincoln set, but reading just carl has 10 sets made my news of completing 1 set now seem that good. Here is my news anyway. Quote:I went to the local coin store to look for Dansco supplies, but they didn't have what I was looking for. I started looking through a "junk" box for one of those cent size mint tokens that designated which mint. I pulled out two P mint tokens, and a UK 1 crown of Churchill that needs an acetone bath. Started talking and the guy had a 1922 no D LWC NGC VG10 at a reasonable price. After a quick trip to the bank, this little buddy came home with me. My 1 Lincoln set is complete now.
