I usually have good experiences on ebay. Some of my most recent ones have been exceptional. On April 30th I won an auction for a coin. I always pay using paypal right away, sometimes as soon as the auction ends. With this particular seller I paid as soon as the auction ended. The expected shipping date was either May 4th or 5th. I don't see this as exact because sometimes the seller can ship out an item and once it reaches the post office they have no control over how quickly they deliver it. For example I won a coin and the seller shipped it out the next day. Two weeks passed before I received the coin. I know it wasn't the sellers fault and I gave him the highest rating allowed. May 5th came and went. Then May 10th came and I decided to send an email to the seller asking if the coin was sent out yet and what the tracking number was. 5 days later and I never got a response from the seller. Ok I thought it is now over 2 weeks and I sent another email. Both emails I sent were very cordial asking again if it was shipped out yet. Again No response. Now it is the 19th. I opened up a complaint against the seller hoping this would make the seller send out the item or at least try to contact me back. I sent a third email on the 19th to the seller, again I was very cordial. I told him I want the coin, but would like to find out if the coin was sent or not. No surprise again no response. Today, ebay rules in my favor and refunds my money. ebay was unable to get any response from the seller either. I was really upset. Not because I didn't get the coin, but the lack of communication. I was nothing but nice and I feel like in the sellers eyes, I didn't matter. I would normally not give the seller any feedback, but this time I felt the need to give a negative feedback. My reasons weren't about revenge for a terrible seller, they were a warning for others out there who might consider thinking twice about buying from a seller who doesn't send out an item or even respond to inquiries. On a side note, I looked at his negative feedback and it seems he has a trend of not sending out items won or communicating with buyers.

In this case you tried multiple times and there was no communication from the seller. IMO, the negative was deserved. I suppose something could have happened (i.e. person in hospital for extended time) but you said they have a history of this. So I wouldn't feel too bad. It's unfortunate when things don't go as planned but that's what the feedback system is for. :)

This person definitely earned negative feedback in this case.

What was the coin? High brow? Could have been a "hacked" account?

Did they list any new items in that 3-4 week period? If not something may have happened to them? Not saying you did the wrong thing giving feedback but it does make you wonder. The fact he didnt even respond to ebay is odd.

Bobby, the trend goes back at least 12 months. I was only able to look that far. I initally thought something might have happened beyond anyone's control, but he has been very consistant selling on ebay. There was no time where nothing was sold. The coin wasn't expensive. It was only $7 shipped. I really don't like to leave negative feedback. It was the first time I did so. If something goes wrong, I usually don't leave any feedback. Also this seller has a 93.3% seller rating.

OK. I just had a thought that maybe the guy was in the hospital, had a death in the family, or something along those lines.

93% is low enough for me to stay away from them. They obviously have had a few negatives to get that.

Here's a TIP for feedback issues that most don't understand, due to "new" no negative feedbacks by sellers to buyers program...if you have suspicions about a seller, look at feedback and go back as far as you have time, or, as many pages you care to peruse...LOOK FOR FEEDBACK REMOVED....in the "old days", this would have been a negative...what it shows is a MAJOR hassle between the 2 parties, and, ebay eventually removed the nasty feedbacks....I ran into a buyer with 7 of these over a 3 year span, contacted all 7, 4/7 responded that they ere duped in the same manner as I was(buyer stated silver was underweight, which was not true, and, tried to blackmail for the 2-ounce "difference")...this guy was a PRO, knew how to "cry foul" and misuse the buyer protection system...any buyer can win virtually any case this way, no matter how right-on the seller is...it's a sad story, played out for a long time on ebay, and, why a lot of sellers just leave.... On the bright side, I have found these scumbags are few and far between, and, 99% of sales and purchases go through very well...I get some issue once a year at best....if you are a seller, and, you do not use delivery confirmation, all the buyer has to do is open a case, and say the coins never arrived, even though they did...and, they win every time....another common scam is on multiple coin sales..they say coin #4 was not in bag, when it was, which, after 2 of these, I started photographing a multiple coin order before I mail it, with all coins next to envelope, with address clearly seen, and, put it in the listing I do this...have not been bothered since, so it works.... I too give the benefit of the doubt with a seller...life happens...but, after a period of time, and, no coin, one sometimes has to call it a day, and, get a refund.

I once purchased a coin book as a BIN and paid immediately, also paid for First Class parcel postage. Two weeks and several emails later, nothing. I filed a dispute with ebay and the book finally arrived after four weeks but it was sent by Media Mail which was about $2 cheaper so I left neg FB for the pocketing of the shipping money and slow delivery/unresponsiveness. I then get a reply FB that the seller had been in the hospital. That is fine and dandy and all but this guy ended up leaving 2-3 dozen buyers blowing in the wind with no notice for four weeks, not so much as a sorry or an offered discount on the next order. The seller started listing auctions again and had good FB for a month and then the negs started rolling in again. Someone had posted FB to some of the auctions stating that the seller had died and that all sales needed to be cancelled. I know we all encounter unforeseen circumstances from time to time but the way this situation was handled was quite unreasonable. He should have given his ebay information to a friend or relative so the many buyers could be notified or at least so someone could end the auctions/BINs that were still running while he was apparently laid up in a hospital. If I had just spent a month in the hospital, the last thing on my mind would be putting up 100+ ebay listings but that is exactly what this seller did and it ended up biting a bunch of buyers again and they most likely never received the items they ordered.

I would say you did the right thing by leaving the negative feedback. Things do happen outside of the sellers control, and even mistakes can be made, and I think it is awesome that you didn't immediately jump to a premature conclusion. Instead you showed patience and went through the steps to contact the seller. Glad to hear ebay did side with you to get your money back!

That's a consideration, of course, but if the previous poor shipping feedbacks go even far enough back to be before the beginning of the auction in question, to me it rises to the level of a pattern.

I totally understand emergencies happen, you can't predict them nor should anyone be angry if it does happen.. Which is the reason I didn't send the seller an email until the 10th of May. I figured 10+ days was enough time before I made an inquiry to the seller.
I have learned to be patient with sellers or buyers. It doesn't pay to be impatient. I have a 100% feedback rating as a seller and buyer. I do my best to make a buyer or a seller want to business with me.
