Hey everyone! I hope you are having a good holiday weekend. I have this coin of Numerian that I can not find a reference to. Nothing on Wild Winds matches. The closest thing I could find elsewhere was RIC 361 of Rome but that legend reads PRINCIPI I-VVENTVT, not PRINCIPI IVVENTVT like mine does. The legend break is different! The mintmark on mine is ΔKA. Thanks for your help!

According to RIC, 361 would be correct. There is no explanation for the difference in the break of the legend, but Delta KA is indicated for RIC 361 as one of the mintmarks.

Interesting! Well thanks JW. I wonder why RIC decided not to break them up into separate records. Ah well we may never know. Stick this thread in the big pile of solved mysteries!

I think your probably correct ancientcoinguy, I've found a reference to a 361 without the break in IVVENTVT, in fact, I think the breaks are not fully covered in RIC for these coins so various breaks are included under the same number.

You may want to have a look at RIC V,2 363, its very similar to 361 and differs only in what Numerian is holding in his right hand (a batton or a globe). Its difficult to see for sure on your coin.

Eddop seems to know more about this families coins than most so I'm sure if he sees this he will be able to say for sure which it is.

You can not see if for the angle that the scan was taken, but in hand you can see that he has a batton. It is pointed downwards towards the R in PRINCIPI. Which RIC entry is the one with the batton, 363? Sorry I am slightly confused and want to make sure I get it right.

As mentioned before it's RIC361. Ric doesn't mention coins with different legend breaks.
Pierre Bastin, coins from Lugdunum, does. Each different legend break has it's own number.
Here we have twocoins, different legend breaks and different officinae marks but still both RIC361.
