This thread is a stroke of genius!

I'm actually having a hard time finding a MS small 70! And a small date proof too!

CaptainFwiffo: Thanks so much for your really nice overlay animation of the 70S LD vs SD. That is just fabulous and makes it very easy to see!

Hello all, I was thinking about trying to win either of these two. Can you confirm date size with your expert eyes for me?

The first one looks good to me (although it's hard to be sure from those pictures). I can't tell at all on the second one.

Even if we had a specific thread concerning this Variety it is sad to say we would still get the same amount of threads in regards to this topic. I am willing to bet 9.5 out of 10 newbs would just immediately post and not read or research.

IMO

I legitimately believe I am that .5 percent that has spent much time researching after finding a 70s.

Truthfully, I know that once it becomes tangible to me, I will certainly be able to distinguish. The comparison photos are exceptional, for me personally, when I begin to inspect too thoroughly, I begin to question my own judgment and see things differently than they may be.

So, I, for one, am very thankful for this tread.

I used to have horrible trouble with these. Once I got one in hand it became a lot easier. If I am at a coin show and am cherry picking albums with small dates in them, I turn the coin upside down. The 7 sticks out like a sore thumb!

Joking, I followed your advice. You're right! I just can wait to see how the SD looks upside down in hand.

Raymo this gem? Is that doubling on his lips I see or is just wearing lipstick?

I actually think this coin is worth a premium, he looks to have had some nose work done too... I bet this coin was once owned by a plastic surgeon. His house probably got broken into, he didn't have a safe and the burglar returned it to the nearest TD Bank for quick cash. Just a though.

Here's a butt-ugly stumper. With my eyes the date doesn't look all that bad. But then, I've got more than just a mushy LIBERTY. It's practically 50% there. The shoulder damage & the scarface is no plus. And it's topped of with a big 'ol blob of tar.
