Hi! Welcome Thanks for Viewing! After 4 Hours of research, Scanning, Taking pictures and editing... ect.. I am convinced that I have Found a 1936 Dot penny! ~ The story ~ Roll hunting Through a box of 25$ worth of pennies... I came across 1 roll that obtained 17 pre 1937 pennies. A good find for sure! Although I did not know about the dot penny. Until 4 or 5 hours ago, I was trying to learn more about rare pennies, then I read about the 1936 Dot penny. I had this 1936 dot listed with 4 other pennies, 1932,1933,1934,1935,1936 as a lot for sale Which I Removed when I Found my 1936 penny had a dot! I had my mind set to find a scanner.. I managed to borrow one and this is the best I can do with pictures. (is there any special way to get bigger/ better quality scans?) *The Dot is almost all faded however still visible* *Friends/Family also see the dot, However they have no knowledge over rare coins* *I cannot find NOTHING On-line accept the dot, Are there other ways to tell if it is A dot penny?* ~ I tried my best to make sure this is the real deal 1936 Dot penny before posting this! Is this an actual 1936 Dot!? ~ Here are my Scans... (Taken less then 1 Hour ago). Edited by Forum Mom to fix dates at bpositive's request.

Hi Shaft, I will try to post A up close good detail of the date soon. Just waiting to see other comments if I should check for something else, or scan something else on the coin. Just curious why a close-up on the date? is they something in the date that would distinguish it as a Dot penny? :) * Also if anyone could help me with coin holders, 2x2 holders, a Coin-book... Anything I need for collecting coins... I cannot find NOTHING down here to preserve coins like 2 x 2 holders, or coin books. Also how much would these cost? * *Remember I am New to Collecting! I'm still learning! * Is it a dot penny?! lol.. * heart is still racing*

I don't want to cause a heart attact but I think that the dot is way too small.Even if it is the real thing, get redy to spend mega $$$ to get it certified. The last person that tried went broke doing it.You can always try to sell it on ebay some collectors might think like it is and offer you $100,000 for it. As far as coin holders, there are many dealers selling them.Check ebay as well.Good luck

If this is a DOT it would be very early in the flaw presses. I don't think it would be considered a true DOT. If you could blow up the scan to 500% would give a better indication. Or a good macro photo.

Dot appears to be the right size and location by your poor scans, but you'll need much better before anyone jumps on your wagon, fakes and illusions are posted too often.

Hi there. So sorry, but the dot isn't there. The '36 one cents have a very distinguishable dot present. I have one with a counter-punch, and that made me look twice! :)

I have it on video I got it from bank roll, along with about 15 other pre 1940 Pennies.
The roll was unusual, also I did not know bout the dot at this time.
Anyone know how to properly take a good scan? I'm using A HP office Jet Vivera. its also a printer... I know nothing about these.. Is there a site I could change up the picture better quality + make it big?
*I used a cotton swab, and " Gently " wiped around the dot before posting pics* *im SURE it is not a fake, as it came with many other pre 1940's. Also does not look like anyone messed with it... its in GREAT Shape just a little worn* *dot still visible Through the naked eye*

Congratulations. Or not. Whichever. Hobby stores sell coin supplies. 10x mag loupe with phone camera takes great close ups. Bad scans make it impossible to judge.

Mate, if theres even a small chance there is a dot there DONT WIPE THE COIN PERIOD!
Do you have a digital camera? Give that a shot you may have better luck getting clear close up pictures.

bpositive I have been using a digital camera and when trying to get close ups of a date I have held a magnifying glass to the end of the camera and have taken close ups that way. Something else to try. Then upload from your SD card to computer

Thats a bit harsh JeyRey. It can be hard working out coin photography when youve never tried it before.

^ I agree, no need to be rude about it. It took me forever to take a good photo
