I found this coin in a bank roll last week. It's the most extreme example of a grease-filled die I've yet seen for a Kennedy half dollar. I can barely read the first two date digits (20) but cannot make out the final two so the actual date is unknown. It does have a weak D mintmark visible but LIBERTY and part of IGWT are missing. The reverse is fully struck and lustrous. The obverse has weaker luster and lots of circulation contact marks but I see no sign of cleaning or alteration. The obverse has a rather pleasing medallic quality about it.

I like it! It's a great example of the error, especially since its a large coin.

Just a final comment on this coin.... When I found it my thought was, "this is interesting, but I would sure rather find silver halves than stuff like this." So, I put it on ebay with a starting bid of $8.00. Apparently it was more interesting to other folks since it closed at over $50. The buyer was happy and I can use the proceeds to buy a BU Morgan dollar plus a silver Walker. A win-win! Guess I shouldn't be so quick to dismiss the non-silver finds!

Your purchaser is a lucky man. Normally, greasers are not particularly exciting. That coin was special.
How much would others here in the CCF pay for this coin?
