There is a rhyme "See a penny, pick it up, all day long, your'll have good luck!"

If anyone looks at you like you are a vagrant just recite it to them, there are plenty of supersticious people around and somehow thats acceptable to most people.

Speaking of looking through garbage. A neighbor of mine goes through garbage cans all over the neighborhood. He has a stead job, makes good money, Actually owns his home outright, has a pickup truck, car, 3 motorcycles. Yet he goes through garbage. So being a sort of outgoing person I asked him about it. He said he picks up Aluminum Cans for the return policy. ?. He pointed out on many cans, at the top is a notation that this is worth $0.10 in some states if returned as is. Since Wisconsin is not that far away, he has relatives there and goes there frequently and they use that return system, he collects as many as possible. Last time he received almost $100.
Still not sure if it's worth having people seeing someone going through garbage.

I don't go through garbage or change trays but in the spring through the fall, I spend my Saturday mornings and sometimes afternoons standing out on the median on the main highway with a sign for donations. I tried Will Work for Food but I've switched to Down on my luck, please help, God Bless. Sometime I do Saturday and Sunday if I have nothing else going on that weekend. But is good money from 10am-4pm.

I've received star notes, silver from time to time and the odd joker with a couple of washers...hahaha.

FYI: That system of returning cans for deposit over state lines is illegal...

I always check my change as soon as I get it and have been known to bump into a few folks with my eyes staring in my hand

Yeah, Newman and Kramer tried that with returning cans for deposit across state lines and it didn't work for them either.

I bend down to pick up any coins I see on the ground.

However, I did it about a month ago and threw my back out and had to stop for a week.

It's all better now, so I'm back to picking them up.

I pick up coins on the ground.
Mostly pennies but sometimes I get a nickel or a dime.
But the older I get, the harder it is to bend down! :)
I also check the return slot on the local CoinStar machines - get a lot of foreign coins from them.
Well I used to at any rate, lately the pickins' have been mighty slim. ;)

okiepb ...

=> why do "you" bend over to pick-up the coins when obviously you've already trained your avatar to do it for you!!?
