Hi Guys, I had bought a couple of auctions a few years ago from asyn, and being unfamiliar with the seller at the time, was extremely disappointed with what I received. Since then, I haven't bought from him, but he does have an auction I am interested in ending tonight ( 140780335716). With circulated coins, I find that he is usually about two grades above what the coin actually is (his F12 is about a G4, his VF20 is about a VG8). However, I'm curious about anyone who has bought MS coins off of him. Are the coins actually uncirculated? Or are they EF-AU coins that he's playing off as MS? I should add that I'm specifically referring to older coins (say pre 1936). I would have no doubt that his MS65 2000 loonie is actually uncirculated. I know the coin I'm looking at isn't a MS64, that doesn't matter to me. But it does matter to me if it's uncirculated. Any input would be appreciated.

If I have been previously disappointed with a seller I just ignore their future offerings to save myself anymore disappointment. I would ignore this and wait untill another coin shows up from a diferant seller

If you were disappointed in the past, why take another chance on the same? Too many good sellers out there the keep dealing with the bad guys.
Just want to add after looking at the photo of the coin I doubt it is mint state. It has definitely been cleaned so buyer beware.

I agree with trout and Indian that staying away from bad sellers is a good idea - it is something that I generally practice. However, from what I see, this seller rarely ever calls coins MS60 or MS62, he almost exclusively calls everything (that is "uncirculated" in his mind) MS65. Thus, if there was someone out there who could tell me "I've bought a bunch of MS65s from him and none of them were MS65, but they were all uncirculated", then I would be fine with buying it.
Personally, I feel that determination of circulated vs. uncirculated is distinct from determining grade. People are entitled to their opinion regarding grade of a coin (this seller's VF is my VG, and that's okay). However, circ/uncirc is not an opinion, either the coin has been circulated or it has not. There is a much bigger difference between one calling a coin EF-40 when it is AG-3, and one calling a coin MS-60 when it is AU-55.
Indian - I express similar doubts about whether it is mint state. The pictures do not help at all, so I was just looking to see if anyone could comment on whether or not this seller can determine whether or not a coin is circulated.

If in doubt DONT bid is a pretty good rule to stick to. There will ALWAYS be another coin at some time in the future that you will have no doubts about an can bid with confidence

Quote: Why is he allowed to Put a grade (MS64) in the title? I thought that was forbiden on the bay? It's a nasty ebay loophole that ebay needs to close. He's in Canada so the rule doesn't apply to him. So he can list his stuff with grades in the title on ebay.com right next to US sellers that get their listings yanked for it. Yeah, that's fair.

It always seems when I jump on a coin when I have doubts, a better one always comes along and I regret the impulse buy.

that Canada 1892 25c MS64...looks like it may have been Cleaned? Never liked this sellers "descriptions"...just says look at photo! Please review the image as it is the most accurate "description" of the item. It always shows the actual item being sold. Grading and typographic errors can occur. If you feel the estimated grade is different than pictured, please adjust your bid accordingly. Picture displayed shows the actual item you will be receiving. What you see is what you get!

Coin looks to be AU-53 at best. Definitely some wear and lack of lustre. Slight chance it has been cleaned. Hard to tell with that washed out photo though.

if you know he over grades then dont bid on it for what he has it graded at. if you do then the only person you have to be disapointed with is yourself
OR
buy it and take advantage of his no questions asked return policy.

Asyn should get coins graded which are worth that much.

That particular coin, pictured in the auction you have linked to, is not mint state and it has been dipped to death. That seller knows good coins and operates literally just up the road from ICCS. There is a reason why that particular coin is not in a TPG holder.

I have purchased more modern MS coins from asyn. The scanned photos look horrible, but when I have received the coins they have looked great.

In my opinion, he's a massive overgrader. Run Forest Run. I've actually eliminated this seller from my ebay coin searches.
