Perhaps the outer layer clad layer is over wrapped to the edging a bit. The edge picture clearly shows the clad layer.

Just for reference, can anyone guess the composition of these 3 halves? The 1971 S proof is in the middle.

Correct N9, the two outside coins are clad 40% silver.

I agree looks silver to me. When it looks to good to be true it usually is.

I read someplace that the Mint tried to run the outer layer down the edges some on the halves to make them look more like silver. Dunno if it is true or not, but it could explain why there are so many "silver" halves that aren't.
