My mother-in-law gave me a 1921-D Morgan yesterday that had belonged to my father-in-law. I noticed the D was extremely small and with a little research found this is called a 'micro D'. What little I've been able to find hasn't told me though if this necessarily rare or desirable.

Is this just another variety, and not that big of a deal?

TIA

Correct. However, there are a whole lot of other things which might make your 1921-D stand out, and improve the value. Is there any way you could get pictures or scans of the coin posted? This is a coin which is near and dear to my heart, and I'm always interested in working with them.

First try at scanning. The obverse came out darker than the actual coin, the reverse is true of both sides on the actual coin.

Pretty good scans for a first try. I'm sure Superdave will know anything and everything that is going on with this coin.

When comparing it to all of the 1921's he's departing with on ebay, I think this is VAM 8675309 Jenny, where the eagle is holding a Canooter valve.

Sorry Dave, I couldn't resist. Certainly not making fun of your passion...

Every one of the 20+ million Morgan dollars minted at the Denver mint has the micro D.

Nice scans, I don't see anything that I can see right off the bat that I can attribute.

:P

I'm in agreement with Becky, mathman, and she's a voice to listen to with any Morgan. One quick question, because of something I might or might not see - does the second T in STATES look normal to you? There's a little flash of light in the scan that caught my eye.

Both T's look the same to me.

Thanks for the info, and if nothing else, for giving me a reason to mess with scanning coins.

Owning a coin is a good reason to mess with scanning coins.

Show me the money!
