Yeah the timing of the Downies auction is a bit of a bummer...will this show decrease their sales? Or perhaps promotes their sales? As for coin magazines, there are a few on ebay, not exactly cheap: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?rt=n...3286.c0.m283I hold onto mine, although I have brought some old Australian Coin Review mags from the Camberwell (Sunday trash & treasure) market in the past. So maybe try your trash & treasure styled markets. You may have luck. I also brought a 1915 Penny in fine for $1 & a 1931 aVF Penny for $1 too. Maybe strike a bargain.

John Mulhall, the current editor of CAB is usually at the Melbourne fair. I know that he has quite a few back issues that you can get from him. Meanwhile if you're coming from out of state wrap up warm as it's been rather chilly here the last couple of weeks. We're expecting a low of 4 and a high of 14 over the weekend.

YES COLD Last year we were lined up outside freezing our little tushes off, only the first 15 in line get to be in the inside part, the wind really blows through that area. But if your not part of the morning rush you wont have to worry about lining up.
Got my little coin list printed up :) And have a few things in my mind of what to do first and how to pace myself. But I'm sure when I get there it will all go out the window.

I agree goatieman. I was there for an hour. It seems to downsize every year. I remember when it used to be held at the exhibition building and was a huge event.
.....I must say the coffee today was TERRIBLE....

Coming off night shift didn't do my enthusiasm any good.
I am sure there are/were bargains to be had.

Just got home! Sooo tired a long day for me. he he had so much fun tho I think I was there for a few hours, 10am -- 2 There wasn't a big line to get in for the morning, ended up talking to a person in line who was a stacker, it's a small world.
The tables were much better set up this year, but there were still spaces in some areas. Found prices expensive this year Only got p'd off with one stall holder this year, guess who Downies! I was treaded like a child, considering I had MONEY to spend they missed out on heaps. They were RUDE RUDE RUDE, how dare the lady down talk to me. I was going to buy a funnel web spider from them, but I ended up walking away.
Only talked to one CCF person and that was PP, must have missed some people.
I had great bargains; any super threepence under $15 was MINE I got 3x 1942m 1934 OD YES I wasn't going to tell the guy it was an overdate!
A few other bits and pieces and I got all my bush babies coin sets signed by EM in gold.

Though I agree with the sentiments above I think a coin show is waht you make of it Sure there were less sellers this year and less people but in a way, it is a blessing in disguise becuase you can go through items on tables without people bumping into you and chat to sellers. Had a good chat with RAM people - ascertained baby proof set was delayed due to bubbling in packing and that future releases would not have medallion beuase "it was too expensive to include" And got a bargain - 2007 specimen kangaroo silver coin for $65 (there are 2 left if anyone's going tomorrow) - no packaging though I spent 2 hours there and had a good time chatting with people and learning from their knowledge

Oh I forgot to mention that I was a very happy chappy with Perth Mint who was very nice to me. I bought the new bush baby Kookaburra coin, and I asked what was the lowest COA they had, and a lady pulled out no.17 I was like yahoo! But I was told that someone this morning had also asked and took no's 2 and 3. like wow.

Oh and cool story, the first table I went too I saw the 2004 proof set, and I asked if I can open it to see if the dollar had any fading around it as I was interested in buying it. When I opened it, I said to the guy did you know there is a finger print on the one dollar and it's inside the case, he checked it out and said I have good eyes and he couldn't believe there was a fingerprint on it, offered a discount and I said I am no longer interested in it. He took it aside followed by mumblings curses at the RAM. Quite funny

Australian coin, I did the exact same thing. The dreaded (2004 holograph) disease hadn't spread to other coins yet, but it's mutation was just begining. The guy mentioned about someone else talking about the same thing. There you go, good to see our CCF influence is playing some part.
As for the water...$4.50...huh?

Here were photos from the day; they are not great as they were taken free hand. 1. Fist is the stamp part for the counterstamp coins, it didn't tun out but on the right the counterstamp die is just a small square part that stamps the coin. I forgot to ask for photos of a few other items from different sellers some of interest were a 1966 way in perfect condition and a few pennies and half penny error which included a concave coin.
