If it has those dents on the face, its fake. If its at all off on the edge, its fake. BAsically, anything less than perfect is probably fake.

I have been looking for fakes for a little while (just out of interest) and had my first today... the edge printing is perfect but it is struck so weakly half of the lettering hardly shows.
So many I have been unsure on, I havent seen any of the crudely made ones in a long time.
I am hoping they withdraw the lot and introduce a new coin anyway... it will be more interesting :P

I have a fake myself from a recent trip over. I'll have to get some pics up soon.

Fake pound coins are really interesting subjects given their diversity - from the very good forgeries all the way to really dodgy ones made by lazy forgers. Of all the interesting ones I have come across the most memorable one was last year I got a fake one that had no date on it!

Interesting find ! Funny enough I got a fake with the same design a few weeks ago . Maybe its from the same batch as yours; as the one I got also had the date and design match but had poor detail ....... Regarrding fakes .... banks and the cash industry apparently send fakes to The Royal Mint after they are identified and removed from circulation , the RM then destroys them thats how they have come up with some of the stats on the prevalence of fakes . Here are some interesting figures I have found on this subject - in the financial year 2003-2004 85 000 fakes were identified and destroyed and in the first quarter of 2010 - 187 000 were identified and destroyed ..... alarming figures but at least they are being removed , If they didnt the percentage of fakes in circulation would probably be in double figures by now !

If you get a fake, are you supposed to send it in and just be out the money?

Apparently that is what people are advised to do ....

Interesting stuff... I wonder who foots the bill, the banks or The Royal Mint? http://www.lovemoney.com/news/scams...-fake-1-coinQuote:The Royal Mint has warned that three in every 100 £1 coins is now a fake, with the total number of counterfeights rising to 44 million. That number has grown by three million in the space of just nine months. less one... as I will probably hold on to this one.

For those interested in fakes, here's a link to my (old) website with many examples of fake pound coins (and a couple of others too) http://ukfakeanderrorcoins.50webs.com/POUNDS.HTMLI haven't updated it in a few years (and can't edit the front page so sorry for the dead image links) so my collection has grown a bit since.

Had too many fakes recently - its getting expensive to keep them out of circulation. I had to refuse one today.
