Very interesting. Looks like the blob behind Liz was border. Perhaps they made a clash by accident. I wonder how long that reverse die has been in service now...

This one I found in Derbys in May 2012 (I posted about it elsewhere) looks kinda familiar :)

I got a fake 2003 pound coin this morning at the Co-op ; the lettering on the side was poor and uneven, the obverse and reverse aligned , the dots were uneven and the detail was a bit poor ....

Found a fake £1 coin this morning. I don't have pictures but the coin was so poorly struck that it's practically smooth to the touch. Also the reverse design does not marry up with the date on the obverse. Finally the lettering on the rim isn't straight.
I would post pictures but I don't think my camera is good enough to pick up the bad detail in all its glory.
I've added it to my coin collection as one of those historical curiosities.

Just collected 21 £1 coins from everyone in the house and they all appear to be genuine. The problem with the fakes is that there is no incentive for anyone to hand them in,whenever I've recognised one in the past I've always passed it on as soon as I could (which is probably illegal to knowingly do so!!)and I imagine that most people would, no-one wants to be out of pocket, even by £1 especially if it happens on a regular basis.

Yup. I keep the best (worst!) examples I find, but others, .. well I ahem, pass over those. If banks would give £1 back people would hand them in. But of course, so might the counterfeiters, so I suspect there's no answer. And that's a nice 50p Mario! Well done!

After another long lean spell I finally got a fake in the change The color was very similar to real pound coins but its the edges were quite poor on part of the coin and uneven

After another lean spell ..., I got my first fake pound of the year What way to start the new year ! The obverse and the reverse aligned , they nearly got that little cross mintmark right but at the end the soapy obverse, poor detail and beads gave the game away

Maybe that 20p was exposed to some chemical or even dipped in sticky treacle , ironically a few months back I got 2 very beat up 20p coins one of which had a tiny slightly odd coloration https://goccf.com/t/58688&whichpage=4

Wow! I never find counterfeit anything in Canada... not even our relatively simple $1 coins. But here you are even finding dodgy low-denominational coins like 20ps? Maybe the counterfeits in my country are just really good...
