Hi guys, I'm still new and inexperienced with coins. I have 3 Peru - Un Sol silver coins, and one of them might be a date re-strike? The 9 looks very different from the 1923 I have. The 9 also appears to be a little more shallow... or less embossed. What do you think? Just damage or is it a restrike? Pics are below.

It is not a restrike for a number of reasons:
1) Peru did not make a crown sized coin in 1824 2) 1820's peru coins were in reales 3) The devices are different 4) Just because
There should be some pics of the differences on the internet somewhere, or check a catalogue.

It's not a restrike you're looking for, it's called an overdate. From the picture this does not appear to be it. For the 1924/824, the bottom of the 8 should be visible below the 9.

Thank you both very much for your responses.
I could not find any information (pictures) of examples of date re strikes, so I have nothing to base my suspicion off of... I just noticed the 9 looked a little different, so thought I would ask.
Thank you again.

I know something of overdates--I own quite a few from Peru, but the pics aren't working. Btw--the 1924/824 and the 1924/823 are both documented in Krause. I would call both die corrections than overdates since they aren't re-dating an earlier die.

Hi DVCollector,
Sorry was having DNS issues with my web server. Pics should be up now if you don't mind offering an opinion. Thanks again!

I see the pics now--thanks! As a comparison, I'm posting a picture of a Peru 1901/1891 1/2 Dinero. If you zoom into the date, you can see the obvious overlap of the 9/8 on my coin. On yours, I'm not seeing anything that I recognize as an overdate. The 9 in 1924 might be a die chip?

Very interesting, I have a 1923 half Sol, do you know of any errors related to this issue? Thanks, Will.
