Quote:I've always been of the opinion that the half should have been used instead of the quarter for the State and ATB series. It might have perked up interest in using half dollars. Given the extra real estate, it could have allowed for some more detailed designs.

Given how much better the 3" format looks than the standard quarter for ATB designs, it stands to reason that even scaling it up to the half dollar size would have been a great idea. That would have been a pretty nice thing, but we'd see even fewer of them than we already do in circulation. What a cool collection that would make though!

I'd like to see a special coin for the 50Th annie as well. My idea would be an image of the eternal flame on the reverse

Pardon my ignorance, I don't collect or keep track of what the Mint produces by way of the modern commemorative coins, they actually put a GIRL on a Boy Scout commemorative? Ed ANA LM-3175

Quote: they actually put a GIRL on a Boy Scout commemorative? Unfortunately yes, right in the middle too. Either that or its a boy with perfectly permed long hair and bangs

They put a girl on the boy scout coin cause girls have been part of the Exploring program since the 70s and the Venturing program since the late 90s.

No, they put a girl on it because we have become a society or politically correct mamby pamby wussies that cave into every special interest group with loud mouthed members of some minority or another screaming and whining about fairness and all that crud. Just my opinion. As for the actual subject of the thread. I LOVE the Kennedy halves. I do not want to see them stopped. I think a similar approach as was taken with LMCs would be a good idea. 4 reverses chronicling JFKs life. I know that was mentioned in another thread. PT109, Cuban Blockade, JFK at the wall, that kind of thing. Then a new reverse and lets go another 50.

smokeriderdon... are you William Shatner/Denny Crane in disguise? I just had a quick flashback to Boston Legal when you said "mamby pamby". And I agree with you - something special like that for #50 would be great for the Kennedy halves series and collectors.

Just my opinion. Agreed. Even if boys had a role in girl scouts you would never see a boy on the girl scout design
