I think the same company offered counterstruck cents with the states on them, and ones with the Apollo moon missions as well.

So the question becomes where is the Lincoln-stamped Kennedy half? Or would that actually be illegal?

Here's one of my 1925 Stone Mountain counterstamped Half Dollars - a North Carolina example.

The company that put out the Apollo mission counter stamped LMCs was The Littleton Stamp and Coin Company. See page 2 I think in the link in my signature. I know that most of the Kennedy counter stamped cents were done by Littleton but there were several different varieties of that stamp put out. I think that other people were also cashing in on their popularity at the time. Edit: I think garbage is a little harsh Coinfrog.

Very nice, commems! I recall in your article about that counterstamped Stone Mountain commemorative that you cautioned everyone to beware of imitations. I was searching ebay for "counterstamp" and ran across quite a few Stone Mountains, and the asking prices were quite high. Definitely something I would avoid, as these could easily be replicated with readily available punches.
