1956 was the year they decided to spruce up the eagle on the reverse.
They made the individual feathers much bolder and made it a higher relief. The coins with this new eagle are identified as type 2.
For whatever reason, they also made a small percentage of 56 proof coins with the lower relief eagle (same as all previous years). These are the type 1.

There are also type 1 and 2 business strikes for the years 1958 and 1959. Keep an eye open for those also.

Thank you so much, Dearborn. Got a new keyboard, so by next weekend, I should be able to catch up to you on the number of posts.
. By the way, you say "2000 Points", where do I trade them in for your US Navy ASE?
