I have recently been transplanted to San Francisco for a extended time. I've been away from Philly for almost a month now and the monkey on my back needs to be fed. So far I have only made two purchases since being here and neither of them really held him off for long. The monkey is starting to get angry. Anyway his name is Lincoln and he wants a 1909 VDB in decent shape for a fair deal otherwise he may start throwing feces at the people who walk by. Please help keep the neighbors smelling fresh and tell me the names of five decent coins shops nearby and nobody gets hurt. Lol. In all seriousness, I might go crazy if I don't buy a coin soon. Thanks guys. -Andrew

http://www.yelp.com/biz/mr-zs-stamps-burlingameIts a bit outside of San Francisco, but it was the first one that came to mind. My dad collects stamps featuring Orchids, and we stopped by here once. I was a bit younger and not interested in the hobby at the time, so I can't really give a good review for his inventory on hand. I do remember him being very nice and friendly when we were there (which is good because my dad can be a pain in the butt). Hope that helps.

There is a pretty decent shop in Vallejo on Tennessee st; the 100 block?.Any way he has been in business for over 30 years and has a large inventory. Though you might have to ask him to dig something out of storage. Don't be fooled by the small store front.

Is it worthwhile to keep in contact with the numismatics those you know, back in Philly?
I would check the coin show calendar for the SF area, could be a new experience for you, as well as getting to know the SF area more generally.
And you can always pay the SF Mint a visit!

Location: THE OLD SF MINT
88 5th Street San Francisco, CA Admission: $5.00 Admission good for both days ($2 off with this coupon)I think you can find the copupon on the San Jose Coin club site

Less expensive parking - There is parking a little further (two blocks) east on 5th street for $10 per day

Best thing to to do is maybe use street parking within easy walking distance of a BART station. Perhaps yopu could save some parking costs that way.
All depends on the cost of a return BART ticket from the station you choose to use.

Not sure I'd want to haul all my new coin purchases back with me on the BART.

Quote: Not sure I'd want to haul all my new coin purchases back with me on the BART. I was thinking the same thing. I would only do it if I had less than a handful, something easily and securely tucked away into my inside coat pockets. I most definitely would not be carrying them in a bag or backpack.

There are a few coin shops in the Fairfield area. I was just out there last month. Check the Internet for area coin shops.
