Attended a wedding in Montana for my wife's cousin. Great excuse to use up a couple of vacation days on either side of the Labor Day weekend....and, of course, visit every coin shop I found (when I had time) on the way.
At a Hastings book store, I purchased a Whitman
Lincoln Cent Tribute board package of volume 1 & 2 (1909 to 1958). Figured I could put together a set from G to XF and frame these. Cost $6.99.
At CC Coins in Casper, Wyoming, purchased a 1976 Denver mint set for $3 (interesting that the quarter, half dollar, and Ike are dated 1776-1976, with the cent, nickel, & dime dated 1975), 1976 & 1979 proof sets for $15 total, and a Whitman blue folder with sliders for Lincoln Memorial 1959-, that is complete, for $2.
At Collins Street Coin & Storage, I purchased a 1935
Mercury dime in a PCI gold holder in MS65 (not FB, but very close). Gently & casually working on a Merc set when I find affordable, high grade Mercs raw or slabbed. TOUGH to grade these puppies.
While in Billings, I did look at a few Lincoln cents. Of note, a 1912 D that would grade 62/63 RB. Dealer started at $425...ended at $375....I passed. Had a soft strike as well. Not a bad coin, but is not worth that kind of money. Did buy a highly toned 1930 Lincoln that is a nice coin....toned...but nice. I usually pass on toned Lincolns, but Bad Thad's photos must be wearing on me. :)
I passed on a 1923 Buffalo that would probably grade MS63...had a couple light bag hits on the obverse, light toning, good strike.....should have bought it....argh!
As usual, a LOT of fun meeting dealers and viewing their inventory. Superb inventory at both Casper, Wyoming stores - VERY impressed with both dealers in knowledge and enthusiasm.
