Has anyone heard of "College banknotes" and know what exactly their use was for?

I have a couple produced for colleges in Kansas, but don't know much about them.

Any help will be appreciated....

I'm pretty sure that I read something relating to your question somewhere (either a book or Internet) but can't recall when & where!!

I'll keep you posted if I could remember ...

College Currency was paper money printed for use in business schools as training money during the late 19th and early 20th century. Some are rather ornate and similar in design to US currency of the day. Eastman Business College and Bryant & Stratton are two of the more prolific issuers. Do a search on ebay for college currency and you will see examples.

There is a reference book called "College Currency" by Herb and Martha Schingothe on the subject.

Thanks lettow! Now I remember!

ragpicker, hope these links help:

College Currency: in the course of teaching business practices and the handling of currency, some business schools in the late 1800's produced their own fake 'banknotes' for use by students in the classroom. These are highly collectible today.
