I find that some colourised/plated coins are stunning , I also find some of them are just butt ugly.
Like you said beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Always collect what YOU like or you are wasting your own time
Collections ARE a personal choice, So just collect whatever rocks your own boat.
There are NO right or wrong coins , just collect what you like

@Shirayasha - love your Obama mock-up. :) Also agree with your assessment of the gold-accented ASE. Wouldn't mind having that one but still wouldn't pay much more than spot for it. Not a fan of those other clown coins. Would only pay spot.

@trout1105 - nice coins! Were those done pre- or after-market? I know the RCM does a bit of colorization of coins. Being somewhat of a mint fan, I would almost certainly buy a colorized coin directly from the US Mint if it were US Mint original, well done, and not ridiculously expensive.

I despise colorized silver eagles! They're damaged goods as far as I'm concerned. They put Obama on them, Michael Jackson, Harley Davidson, etc. etc. etc. All that "collectable" crapstuff that is just pure garbage.

You can't have an official Obama US coin because he is still alive, there is a law that states only deceased presidents can commemorate a coin. Its why when you buy the presidential albums they stop with Reagan because they can't put either Bush, Clinton or Obama on a coin.

I wish the US mint made a colorized American Silver Eagle. I'd be on that fast.

Almost a odd question. If you think about it, people do so many things to be different. Ever hear about Henry Ford saying you can have any color car as along as it's black? That was a long time ago and today, you can get cars in one, two, three colors, with stripes, flames, all kinds of lights and on and on and on. No one says those are ugley. Many just laugh at some of them but there they are.
Ever look at the clothing section of a store? Any store. Every item is different colors usually.
With coins too, the more different you make them, someone out there will buy them. They are used to make all sorts of jewlery, table tops, even a toilet seat. At a Zoo I was just at they have machines that flatten them and put a photo of an animal on them. My Grand daughter collects all of them.
Coins are used in wishing wells, placed on RR tracks and almost anything else possible on Earth.
So why not color them too?
