So I'm a pretty large building with at least two vending machines on each floor. All of them appear to no longer take the new loonie or toonie and it got me thinking. Just wondering who's expense does this end up being the vending machine company, or the mint? Are other people finding this to be a problem also?

I would guess that all of the new vending machines being produced will take the new loonies and toonies. The older machines will need to be calibrated somehow, or have some parts replaced. I would have toassume that would be at the expense of the vending machine owners. It only makes sense thatin business when things in your industry change, that keeping up with the standard is a cost of staying in business.

My brother-in-law's friend owns a set of vending machines and that's how it works for him.

I'm wondering if the mint is in the process of getting all the old coins for melting. I tought that the mint was providing new coins to vendors for testing before the releasing.

UGH, why is the RCM so good at removing coins from circulation? why can't they be like the mint here in the states?

Sorry to bring back up an old thread seems my frustration about non-working vending machines is only about to get worse when the new 5's and 10's come into play

I am not sure why the RCM decided to make security features on coins. Is coin fraud really that big of thing to warrant such measures?

I hate it. I think the fact that the 2013 proof set DOES NOT have the dollar/two dollar coin with the security features in it is telling. I think they are an embarassment, and the so-called savings come at a massive cost to private businesses who have to retrofit all their change machines/parking meters/vending machines.

They are ugly steel slugs, they look fake, they feel fake, and they will never have any numismatic value. NEVER.
