This is a coin my dad got back in 1987/1988, and held onto. I seen the Wrong Planchet Toonie on Loonie Strike thread posted by Fenian, and I thought I would post this error as well. On the top of the coin, where CANADA is cut off, the coin gets very thin. I brought this coin to a dealer 2-3 years ago, and they also thought the coin was on a one cent planchet. My dad told me that when he got the coin, he brought it in to a dealer in downtown Toronto to get an estimate on the value. The dealer originally offered $0.01 for the coin, then generously upped his offer to $1.00. Edited by Canadian-Banknotes 01/13/2013 11:57 pm

Nice error! Easy $800-$1000 You need to double check the weight of it though , could be on a foreign planchet . Here is one 4.1g papau new guina or new zealand .

Looks to big to be a 1-cent planchet - based on what we see from 1-cent blanks struck by 25-cent dies. The colour does not look right - I think it could be struck on a foreign planchet. Nice error, thanks for sharing.

Very nice to get from your father. I am surprised to see an error on such a recent coin.

Can you please post the weight and (I am serious) if the coin is magnetic?

I just weighed the coin on the kitchen scale that I have, and the coin weighs 4g. However, this scale does not do decimals, unfortunately. So I am not sure if this number is rounded up, or rounded down. Quote: BC is this one for sale ? great looking coin As of right now, the coin is not for sale. My dad is still the owner of the coin, so if he decides to sell it, CCF will be the first to know. Quote: (I am serious) if the coin is magnetic? The coin is not magnetic.
