All the anger over the fast sell out would have been prevented if the Mint had only allowed a set per customer like the Robert Batement Silver Dollar. So why did the Mint had a limit of one per customer for the Batement coin and 3 for the penny set? It makes absolutely no sense when you figure the penny tribute would be a more popular coin than a obscure artist many Canadians never heard of. If anyone is blame for the mess, is the guys who made the decisions at the Mint.

I agree with you. It is unfair for the non-MC. As said before. I have never order anything from them again. I resevered this penny set at my local PO.

I just read the reviews on the RCM website. Most are MC members who got shut out because they weren't able to get a set. But you gotta love the good natured Canucks they still say they would recommend buying this set even though they were shut out.

As a MC member, I didn't order on the first day and many others passed on the set. I don't think RCM could possibly forseen the popularity of this set. My bet is APMEX or some other US dealer purchased a large percentage of the sets.

Many people were able to order the set even before it was officially announced to MC members because of the information on this forum and that of RFD.
I know its not fair, I know its not ideal, but next time an announcement is made here or there, take advantage of it. Call the mint and place your order. 'nuff said.

Anybody know how many Masters club members there are? My guess is there are alot more now then even say 5 years ago. More and more members will be left out of popular items like the penny set unless they call or order on the first day of release.

" when you figure the penny tribute would be a more popular coin than an obscure artist many Canadians never heard of." Really? Robert Bateman - 'an obscure artist'? http://www.robertbateman.ca/

Hello guys and girls! I even didn't know that this set will create such a "fight" till started to read this forum. Telling the truth - while I am not a Master Club member in RCM, but managed get 4 sets for the issue price: two on the first day of MC release (call to proper people in RCM), and one from the first minute of public release, and the last one from the Talisman. The set was available...

Dcadon, true, Robert Bateman may not be obscure as I made him out to but most people I talked to do not know who he is. But everyone know what a penny is. If you are not into art, the chances are that you recognise the name Robert Batement is small. I talk to all my nieces and nephews who range in age 10 to 30 and they have no idea who he is. And most immigrants I know have no idea who he is. All of them are here more than 30 years. In fact, I ask a lot of people, recent arrivals and people born here, who the guys on the $5, $10, $50, $100 bills are and they don't know. Well, the Mint assumed everyone knew who Robert Bateman is and/or that they care enough to buy the coin. The Mint was certainly wrong on both counts. It makes absolutely no sense in limiting the 5 coin penny set to three per person, yet limiting the Batement coin one per customer. All it did was benefit the hoarders.

Maybe the person in charge of setting limits on coins is a huge Robert Bateman fan, so he/she assumed that the moose coin would be an instant hit. The situation with hoarding is here to stay and will only amplify in the future. The Perth Mint sells out their popular coins within minutes of the release date and collectors in Australia have been complaining for years about missing out. As long as coins are appreciating in value, some significantly, it will attract new buyers who are short-term oriented. This will not change in the near term.
