Please! Let's not start this debate again! It's not productive and just escalates into a war of words that no one wins.

Yup - and then the thread gets deleted.
It is funny how Gatewest keep running out of the lower priced sets but then finds more stock of the higher priced sets.
Does anyone know why Colonial have yet to post the new release?

my local dealer told me that as of last weekend, he has yet to receive a notice of what his allotment is. Perhaps colonial acres have yet to find out how many they are allotted from the RCM yet either. i understand dealers charging more. The margin on commemorative coins for the dealers is quite abysmal.

Bravo Elkslayer, I also take exception to criticism of RFD. I've been reading their thread for almost a year and can honestly say those people work together without any of the petty bickering you see in other threads. They organize group buys and anyone can get in. They negotiate prices with the Mints and split the costs evenly. Is that hoarding or greed? No, it's smart business. Then there's the individual who sold 5 of the penny sets to other members AT COST, and not only that, has offered to try to round up more sets at local PO's and distribute at cost plus expenses. Yeah that part wasn't mentioned.

You can't begrudge Elkslayer his 67 dinos, and other hoards. He is a businessman who sees an opportunity to profit and acts. He has given this board tips on where he gets his coins, so we have the same chance he does. Is he suppossed to not buy a bunch of these coins so others can get them? Who would get them? Sure some collectors, but also other flippers. You need to look at history to realize somebody always profits when there is a shortage of something. This happens in democracys and dictatorships. It will never change. The US and Canada are built on the free enterprise system. This is it, at work. Some of you have duplicates of rare coins, will you sell them to me at face? I didn't think so. There are others that need your duplicates. Same thing, you have more than you need and want a big, fat profit for it. What's the difference? 2 vs. 67? Okay tell me at what number you're not greedy?

People on the redflag forum are bragging about selling the set for $300. Well good for them but only a few will get such a large amount. The price will likely settle to list price in a few months.
But the hoarders are preventing the average coin collector from getting the coins they want.
If the prices settle to list, how are the hoarders preventing the average coin collector from getting the coins they want?

The more I think about the significant historical aspects of this discussion. I think of the great patriots who died to allow Elkslayer to make a profit in this day and age. Without them there would be no Donald Trump, Warren Buffet, David Thomson, Jim Pattison. For this reason, I am hereby suggesting that the RCM make a commemorative medal of Elkslayer holding his 67 glowing dinos at night. (Somebody strike up 'Oh Canada').

Quote:Colonial acres also isn't a RCM dealer If that is true, how do they stay in business selling new coins at RCM issue prices? They now have at least two of the coins from the latest issue on their website.

Do you believe coin dealers buy all the coins at their issue prices from RCM?

The same 2 coins they have in-store. According to them, the other staff will be on-line, since the will know, exact quantities, that will be received from the mint.

Quote:Do you believe coin dealers buy all the coins at their issue prices from RCM? @cheney: I'm not sure if this was directed at me but if it was; no obviously dealers do not pay issue price. That was my point. bmxboy said C/A is not an RCM dealer. My question to him was if that is true then why would they sell at issue since a non-dealer would be paying issue price. Perhaps the crux is how we are defining ' RCM dealer'. To me, that means they have dealer status with the RCM.

Wow the day each PO gets only one, the PO's throughout Canada will look like the Vancouver riots after game 7.
