But public outcry has put it on hold. Just thought this was interesting. I wish ATMs here in the States would dispense bills other than $20. (I did come across one machine that did $10 and $20, and thought it was my lucky day!)

PNC bank has ATMs that dispense all bills from $1 to $50. Depending how they are configured they may dispense $5's instead of tens and not all of them dispense $50's.

At the college where I work we have a big enclave with vending machines. Not all of them accept bills, so right in the middle there's one that turns your bills (1, 5, 10, or 20) into dollar coins.

The "public outcry" is over the introduction of new high-denomination banknotes and replacing low denomination banknotes with coins. The largest denomination coin in Nigeria today is the 2 naira piece, worth 1.2 US cents at the official exchange rate. Not much point ATMS dispensing those.

I have no idea why the $50 note is not a more popular denomination in the US. Here in Australia, every single bank ATM spits out $20 and $50 notes.

Same in Europe, we get 10, 20 and 50, depending on the place.
10 and 20 are the most common, and some machine let you choose what you prefer (between 10 and 20, or 50).
We have also some cash changers in some places (to get coins), for example at the post office (but those are not common)
