Quote:Someone on ebay is saying they have the 5 coin set in hand ready to ship. Could it be true? If they used a stock photo, I would say no. Quote: Unless the Mint ship the set out randomly I think they ship based on postal codes. I always order within an hour of coins being posted for MC on-line and I'm a 20 minute drive from the Mint yet folks from the GTA always get their coins before I do. Centre of the universe gets 'em first. That said, I did get most of my order today and more were shipped last night. Only the 5 penny set and the 50 cent Santa have not shipped from this release. Both Grosbeaks and my Dinos are still MIA.

I agree about shipping on basis of the postal codes.
Is Toronto - the Center of Universe?
From the current release I got 1/2 oz Penny, Anniversary set and Go7. And the 5 Penny set didn't reach us too.

I'll bet you everyone will get their coins at the same time. You watch and see.

Thought I'd add one more contrast pic. The big guy and the little fella.

@CC-Ottawa: Do you mind taking a photo with the gold penny and a real penny side by side for comparison? Also, does the gold penny come with the capsule (with ring) as in your photo? Thanks!

What is the finish on the 5 oz? The fields look like a herringbone pattern.

@shopaholic Here's the pic. Just a random penny. The 1/25th comes in the capsule with the black ring just as it in the photo. If I recall correctly, all of the previously issued 1/25th and 0.5 gram gold coins are presented the same way. @dialog_gvf The finish is definitely unusual. I wouldn't call it herringbone but it does have a pattern. It's kind of like the fish skin (not scales) of a trout or salmon. As you move the coin, the pattern appears to change slightly as the light hits from different angles. I'm on the fence. Sometimes, I like it and other times I wish that the RCM had just done a traditional proof finish.

@CC-Ottawa: Thanks for the photo. Looks like the size of the gold penny isn't too small, and using the ring capsule makes it easier to handle and appreciate, as well as gives an illusion that the coin is bigger than it really is. Regarding to the finish of the field of the 5oz penny. I personally think that the Mint made a very good choice. There were countless times I almost got blinded by light reflected by the mirror-like field on coins with too much empty space. This 5oz penny is quite big and there is a fair bit of empty space around the maple leafs. The choice made by the Mint made the coin easier to the eye, Just my 2 cents (I didn't own this coin so can only tell from the photos you all posted here )
