I want to be part of this! I was last year and have been looking foward to this year. I even want to do something similar to this with my coin club!

enworb, My concern as well. I sent off a standard letter, with two dimes enclosed, to Moscow, Russia. Cost a few US dollars. No special signature or registration. Since the value of the gift is small relative to the cost of posting, even Santa has to watch his budget. I am willing to send anywhere, but ... We are all in the same boat, "Oh Captain, Our Captain"
Awaiting the Captain's reply.

Givers Choice how you ship and what you send.
We set guidelines so someone does not send out a very expensive gift and only get in return a one cent coin.
We have never chastised anyone from sending a gift that exceeded the limit, BUT we have had to delete posts and suspend members that whined about receiving a gift worth less then they sent out. Got the point?
Assignments will be sent out after close date and time aprox Dec 2 or 3.

SANTA does not update the list as each name comes in but it does get updated as often as possible Here is the new list of boys and girls on Santa's list.

Since the value of the gift is small relative to the cost of posting, even Santa has to watch his budget. It's even worse with me. I'm the guy in Moscow, Russia who's supposed to receive these two dimes. However, they've been sent on October 1, and so far as I can tell (I'll check better in a few hours) hadn't arrived yet - a decent indication of how slow our post is. I really want to participate in this... but by the rules I would've been unable to send my letter until Dec 3 - and if so I doubt it'll arrive by Jan 9 unless I use some kind of expensive express mail! What's worse: whoever gets me assigned as an addressee would've been unable to send me the gift without going well over the budget as well, and in that case it won't even be their fault If there's another participant from Russia (unlikely as they'll have the same problems as me) I guess I could apply for a "local exchange" (if so I'm in). If there's no such participant (almost certain) I presumably have to be out

january1may,I'm sure Santa will allow exceptions for far-flung members such as yourself.I,for one, would have no problem sending a coin to Russia via regular post,it's only a few dollars extra.

Oh january1may, your original post suggesting that it would not be until December that you receive my letter is more accurate than expected. Patience is a Russian virtue. It has to be!
Should I get an international name I have already made a choice of gift. Now to pick out something for an American.
The first of my giveaways to Canada was received, and my way of posting seems to work.
If it helps, put me down for an international recipient.

I realize not everybody will like their gift. I remember in junior high school we did a secret Santa and I pulled the same name as the girl who pulled my name. I went to the store and bought an item that cost me 1.25 (keep in mind this was 1974 and that was a lot of money for a 13 year old), which worked out to an hour and a quarter of babysitting money. She gave me a used key chain that looked like it came out of the trash . I never complained but was always told to be glad for what you receive and if you are unhappy, keep it to yourself. Keep in mind that if you send a really bad gift, the gift receiver gets to show this gift on this forum and from whom it was received. Everybody will get the idea of what a poopy gift giver you really are . Nothing would have to be said. A picture is worth a thousand criticisms.

I was mistaken as it turned out... the letter arrived already, on October 18 to be exact if I'm reading the post stamp correctly (and if it's the correct post stamp of course). I just wasn't able to check it since last week; I did have an opportunity to do so this evening (i.e. a few minutes ago as of now), hence my mention of "check in a few hours". And apparently I just got lucky If you're really willing to allow an exception involving me, I could probably participate; however, I'll have to consult with more knowledgeable persons, as I have literally next to no idea how to send a physical letter (never mind how to send one abroad). I'll make sure not to send in my address until I'm reasonably certain I know well enough how to send such a letter; I guess I still have all of November left to find out though

rggoodie, the little broke girl has a question . . .
. . . . does each coin have to be worth $5-10, or only your total gift? I ask because I only own three coins worth more than five dollars; some of my others would be worth that much in a higher grade, but being in VG-F-XF has tumbled them considerably. I can put together a nice little packet for someone who enjoys circulated coins, but many members seem to collect only AU/MS and I'm afraid that such a thing is way, way out of my price range.

Total Gift value $5 to $10 approx it can be either a single coin or multiple coins up to you. But don't get hung up on the value part, a gift is a gift. People send what they can afford. I have never had a bad gift from this exchange and have been in it since the start. Do I send out coins worth more then $10 yes sometimes but I certainly don't expect to get something equally or more valuable in exchange. This is supposed to be about giving folks not what you get.
